Both groups were surveyed on a host of factors, including their use of marijuana and other drugs. The studys authors concluded that people who smoked marijuana on a daily basis were three times more likely to be diagnosed with psychosis compared with people who never used the drug. For those who used high-potency marijuana daily, the risk jumped to nearly five times."

MJ is the only thing Ive found that relieves my TMJ issues that were caused by an old basketball injury.
Or I could go around all day with discomfort in my jaw and feeling like I have to yawn all the time.
I choose marijuana.
Like Glucosomine, it might work for you but not someone else. They may have a terrible reaction to it. But to claim it kills cancer is silly.
A placebo makes people feel better. If you feel better, who cares if it is working physically? You are getting the desired effect. But legalizing medicinal marijuana is just way to keep from legalizing it totally. Get the government out of the plant business.
I do too provided it was prescribed by a doctor. I have seen several people who were self-medicating and justifying it by claiming it was medicinal when it seemed pretty obvious that they just wanted to get stoned.
Alcohol has negative consequences - should it be banned?
Did I say the word banned? I dont believe I did, so you are putting words in my mouth
Did I say you said the word banned? I dont believe I did.
What I do know is that there is a term used which dates back thousands of years and the term is intoxicant. The root of that word is toxic which relates to a poison.
And yet researchers haven't been able to kill any lab animal larger than a rat with THC, and even then only by intravenous administration - some "poison."
It is a freedom of choice if one chooses to poison themselves. It becomes a dangerous choice is if one chooses to poison themselves and then drives down the road or act in such a way that kills, maimes, and destroys. That intoxicated choice overstepped personal freedoms and inflicted pain, suffering, and a loss of freedom negating ANY choice for those whom have become victimized by the intoxicated choices of others.
Responsibility goes hand in hand with choice and freedom.
Consequences? Sure. Quality of life? Sure. But they are choices too. Am I on the hook for paying up on someones elses poor choices? Sure I am, just like ever other taxpayer.
All the above is also true of alcohol; what, if anything, ought we do about that?
Evidence?
Has anyone denied that it *COULD* have those effects?
What exactly has been known for 2,500 years? And who claimed it's wrong?
Be my guest :)
Seems like a lot of pot defenders on this site. From my experience watching others, it is likely to cause permanent damage. As with many things, some people are more or less susceptible.
Ascorbic acid is a chemical.
Jus' sayin' ...
No, your nonrandom observations with no control group show NOTHING about causality.
It cites other papers in support of causality - here's what those papers say about their findings (emphases added):
"We review the evidence from longitudinal studies that have examined this relationship and discuss the epidemiologic evidence for and against interpreting the findings as causal. [...] Overall, evidence from epidemiologic studies provides strong enough evidence to warrant a public health message that cannabis use can increase the risk of psychotic disorders."
"adjusting for prodromal symptoms indicated a possible temporal or even causal link between cannabis use and subsequent psychosis"
“All the above is also true of alcohol; what, if anything, ought we do about that?”
You can’t eradicate marijuana because it’s a weed and grows anywhere and you can’t eradicate alcohol because the process of fermenting or distilling alcohol is a relatively simple operation and people will continue the practice. So government steps in and taxes it and makes money off of it, and the medical industry makes money off of the care and feeding of those people who have destroyed their physiology with it.
THC? I think I explained the effects of THC on people from a certain island off of the coast of Greece who were hashish users throughout their lives and their brains were functioning and for lack of a better term they were burned out. Some call THC a gateway drug, I know plenty of people who probably used it at one time in their life or maybe periodically and it doesn’t seem to be a gateway drug for those folks yet...again it’s Human Nature to abuse, it’s human nature to seek out the good feeling that poisoning yourself (in actuality) gives you, and be not mistaken when you poison yourself the human response is that it feels good or feels fun or it feels loopy and comfortable. But if you’ve ever noticed, animals - if they eat something that makes them feel that way they’ll never eat it again.
That is a different reaction between animals and humans...I guess we interpreted as a good feeling animals know it for what it is - a poisoning.
So what do I think we should do? I often consider discussions from Frederic Bastaite, in particular his treatise called The Law. In chapter 1 he gives an overview of his treatise by stating that the purpose of law is to make committing an unlawful Act less painful than the punishment received from committing that unlawful act. It could be physical pain, it could be monetary pain, it could be ruinous pain upon your character or your livelihood for the rest of your entire life. That, states Bastaite is the motivation to not commit criminal acts.
When does poisoning yourself become a criminal act? When a lapse of reason or a lapse of responsibility occurs and a person who is intoxicated, kills, maims, or destroys somebody else’s freedom to pursue their happiness through intentional, or unintentional (but nevertheless occurring) circumstances. A punishment is in order.
Is THC a poison? THC has the ability to change your responses to certain stimulus. It’s considered psychoactive, and kids and dogs have eaten pot laced brownies and gone to the hospital because they were severely dosed. I heard once that a poisoning is anything that can change your physiology. Physiology also includes chemistry and is not exclusive to tissue associations.

“Evidence? “
i have an idea, let’s generate some “evidence”: try drinking a cup of pure THC and if you survive, let me know ...
Evidence?
i have an idea
I have a better one: don't make claims you can't back up.
Agree 100% - whatever the substance. Do we also agree that if nobody elses freedom to pursue their happiness is maimed, no punishment is in order for the possession, use, or sale?
As a pain killer and anti-inflammatory Medical Cannabis oil is very effective.
I have shattered vertebra and compression fractures in lower to low mid spine and degenerative discs, misaligned fractured vertebra at brain stem from breaking my neck and fused vertebra and degenerative discs in neck, and no cartilage in knees and advanced arthritis just about everywhere. Lots of none stop pain.
Dr has given me morphine and codeine, but I don’t like taking either, this stuff will addict you, has lots of bad side effects and will kill you. I will take the pain over these opiates most days.
I tried medical cannabis oil, it is amazingly effective, inflammation gone, joints loose and fluid, pain reduced 80 to 90%. Felt like I could run around block. But I don’t like the psychoactiveness so stopped taking it after a few test tries. Suppositories bypass liver so Cannabis oil in suppositories should work good and no psychoactiveness. Others report that has been the case with them. Because of my lower spine injuries I cannot insert suppository so I am building a applicator tool, just got final parts I need. Last tool I made broke, it was just a quick build with materials I had around home.
THC is the pain eliminator, CBD while good in reducing inflammation does not reduce severe pain...I tried both low strength 20mg and high strength 700mg, with no pain relief.
As for the idiots in this thread who think it is fun to smack down Freepers with stage 4 cancer or any Freeper with serious medical illness, SCREW EM...they are clueless and without decency! I will just ignore these morons and suggest the rest of us do to.
Glad to hear Cannabis is helping you GSWarrior, God bless and may he heal you completely. Thanks for your post.

My first attempt at College was in pursuit of a botany degree which was later changed to electrical engineering out of necessity for healthy paychecks. So from a botanist standpoint, I would like to see the drug trade in marijuana discontinued (yeah right...), and if people wished they could purchase a packet of seeds at Walmart and garden their own.
Maybe we ought to do the same with alcohol. For your own gardening pleasure or your own Brewing pleasure but the minute you start selling it and distribute it you are breaking the law.
Like that’s ever going to happen...
Pretty much all things are chemical, some are natural, some are made by men in laboratories. I didn’t think I had to explain that but I guess I should have...
Many put poisons in and on their bodies everyday. Look at ingredient list of any processed food or man made substance people put on body. The correlation between under arm deodorant and breast cancer has been known for years, yet people still use it.
Many are addicted to sugar or caffeine as examples, and there are health consequences for both.
