A Conservative Case for Puerto Rican Statehood
National Review ^ | March 26, 2019 | Kyle Sammin

Posted on 03/26/2019 7:36:55 AM PDT by C19fan

Democrats are in charge of the House of Representatives once again, and so they have placed a bill on the House floor that would admit the District of Columbia to the Union as a state. The political motivations are clear. The new state — for which they propose the unwieldy name “State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth” — would be reliably Democratic, adding two senators and one representative to the party’s totals.

“Conservative” and “National Review” don’t go together anymore unless it’s VDH or Andrew McCarthy.

No. We’ve already got enough island states. They scream they want statehood and as soon as they get it, they want to be a “sovereign nation” like the Indian reservations.

Assuming statehood, can you imagine the state income tax rates required to service their existing debt?

Not buying it.

Not now.

Not tomorrow.

Turn Puerto Rico loose and let them form their very own socialist state.

Which is what they’ll do as a democrat plantation - er - state.

Again, NO!

How many times have the people of PR voted on statehood - and voted it down every time?

The author says the people of Puerto Rico chose statehood in 2017. Is this true?

In the past, these ballot initiatives have had three choices, and none of the three get a clear majority. Did statehood get over the 50% line?

That election the pro-status quo party boycotted so only 23% of eligible voters participated.

General rule, anything that starts with “A Conservative Case For...” is not written by a conservative but by someone who hates us and wants us dead.

Um, NO. We don’t need another financial burden with little for the U.S. to gain except a bunch of gibsmedats. Always with their hand out.

At this point in our history no Democrat in Congress will vote for any new state unless they are 100% certain it will vote 100% Democrat.
Period.
