President Donald Trump made a rare appearance at a church last Sunday. It’s a safe bet the sermon was not based on Proverbs 15:1—”A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” If it was, it didn’t appear to have much effect.
Before and after church, the president engaged in a tweet storm that insulted several people, including the late Sen. John McCain.
Trump accuses McCain of being complicit in the leak of the Steele dossier, a private intelligence report compiled by former MI6 officer Christopher Steele for the political research firm Fusion GPS, which, among other things, alleges that in Moscow Donald Trump booked ” … the presidential suite of the Ritz Carlton Hotel, where he knew President and Michelle Obama (whom he hated) had stayed on one of their official trips to Russia,” and, while in the company of prostitutes, defiled the bed.
According to Newsweek, ” … major parts of the dossier have been verified by subsequent investigations into Russian election meddling.” Trump’s behavior at the Ritz Carlton in Moscow, however, remains unverified.
The president referred to McCain as “last in his class at Annapolis.” This was too much for McCain’s daughter, Meghan, who said on “The View” that the president is leading “a pathetic life,” adding, “He spends his weekend obsessing over great men, because he knows it, and I know it, and all of you know it, he will never be a great man.”
This is the problem with insults and anger. They invite similar responses. Nothing is affected by harshness, except a general degrading of the office and of the people who shoot rhetorical arrows at others.

we depend on Trump to point out the snakes. i think he tried rapprochement, burying the hatchet by giving the family the accoutrements of a state funeral, only to be insulted by Megan and not invited. i get his upset.

Spot on. Even after McCain’s death, at his funeral Meghan McCain during her eulogy continued the attack on Trump. And even though Trump generously signed off on a state funeral more in line of what should be granted for a president he got zero thanks from the McCains; just a continuation of degrading and contemptuous attacks. Concerning Trumps comments about McCain; he’s now a historical public figure. So, Fat Girl Meghan had better cinch up her girdle and get used to objective and negative reviews of Her father. History can be harsh....
I love how journalists refuse to believe that the president of the US has access to information that journalists do not have. So they say he “claims” something. No, he “knows” something. It makes even the likes of Cal Thomas sound stupid.
Trump doesn't accuse McCain, unsealed court documents proved this as a fact.

Why do pundits and politicians insist that we accept bogus images of transparent scoundrels like McCain. We don’t need to slander McCain, but we must be honest about his actions during his public career. He was, in fact, a bitter, vindictive, duplicitous and petty man. I appreciate his service in the Navy (such as it was), but heartily disrespect his disrespectable behavior in government.
Don’t want to hear the truth? Stop asking Trump.

Look in the dictionary under “cognitive dissonance” and this is what’s there.
Cal’s a good man but he’s emphatically wrong on this one.
I gave McCain the benefit of the doubt for years. Only during Trump’s presidency did I finally see that McCain’s dominant personality trait was vindictiveness.

McCain was an enemy of the domestic sort, a loser, and a crook (google keating five). As far as I'm concerned songbird should have dropped dead decades ago.
