Whats in a name? Everything for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The New York Democrat blasted Fox News host Laura Ingraham and her guest for mocking how she pronounced her name and saying she does so because its a Latina thing.
If by the Latina thing, she means I actually do the work instead of just talk about it, then yeah, Im doing the Latina thing, she wrote on her Twitter page late Wednesday. Unless of course shes talking about being multilingual, which we know isnt a Latina thing. Its a 21st century thing.
Ocasio-Cortez also said that Fox News hosts incorrectly pronounce her name as Cortez, because that sounds more stereotypically Hispanic + probably incites more anxiety for them.
Pro Tip: My last name is not Cortez, just as theirs isnt Ingra or Carl or Hann,' she said, referring to Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity.
Ingraham, on her Fox News show The Ingraham Angle on Tuesday, asked guest Joe diGenova if he had noticed how when Ocasio-Cortez pronounces her name does she take on that Obama, Obama put on accents?
She does the Latina thing where she does her, you know, Anastasio Ocasio-Cortez,' said diGenova, a conservative lawyer, exaggerating the pronunciation.
Ingraham went on to call Ocasio-Cortez the It Girl, and I mean girl in a very mature way.
Ocasio-Cortez continued to school the two on the correct use of her name.
My last name is Ocasio-Cortez. Full stop. Thats my name. No, you cant say Cortez. Ive never used that in my life, she said. Cortez is referring to someone else. Even if theyre trying to be rude + wrong, my dads last name was Ocasio anyway. (His name was hyphenated too, though.)

I’m still a fan of “pompous little twit” and hoping that one sticks.
She probably thinks they mispronounced her name and would spend an exaggerated amount of time helping someone say her name correctly. Never understanding the inside joke about “Occasional Cortex”.
But I use it all the time.
Fifteen minutes and the clock is ticking...
Jerry Rivers = Geraldo Rivera
I refuse to use AOC. Catchy nicknames signify respect.
My wife calls her “Deer in the headlights girl”
If Mr. Ed had a daughter! Just saying! Or somewhere there’s a Beaver Dam missing a Beaver!
LOL, well...I guess he is learning then!
I’ll stick with calling her an ignorant twit.
Okay then, "Cortez" it is.
I once knew a representative from a large company, and he would visit me on occasion to check on status, peddle new products or features and such. He was young, stocky, with a blonde flat top crewcut, and he was from Australia with a very rich Aussie accent. I liked him, and he seemed very much like a rugby player you might encounter in a bar having a Guinness.
It was that accent, which many Americans (including myself) can be suckers for...it just invites familiarity!
“Heya Mate! What’s on with ya?” type of thing...
So I see him at a conference talking to someone, and as I approach, I can hear the conversation as he speaks...in completely unaccented “American” English!
I found it hilarous...I never let on that I knew it was just an angle for him to turn on and off as needed...:)
“Ocasio-Cortez continued to school the two on the correct use of her name.”
Does mean that name ‘Occasional Kotex’ isn’t correct?
Hmmmmm... then shouldn't it be spelled 'Ocasio-anyway'????
One would think she served someone who later was picked up for DUI. Many bars get sued over that.
Typical of any leftist, can dish it out all day long but can’t take it.
Bodegas have bathrooms? Must be something new in NYC, they never had them when I was there.
So I guess Occasional Consciousness or Occasional Coherence are out now.
I’m convinced that a significant number of the votes she received was primarily or exclusively because of her hyphenated latina last name. Tribal votes by ignorant people who had no idea who she was or anything about her, other than their belief that she’s one of them based on her name.
Same with Loretta Brixey winning in Santa Ana, CA. Oops, I mean Loretta Sanchez, the married woman who suddenly rediscovered her maiden name when she entered politics.
