Whats in a name? Everything for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The New York Democrat blasted Fox News host Laura Ingraham and her guest for mocking how she pronounced her name and saying she does so because its a Latina thing.
If by the Latina thing, she means I actually do the work instead of just talk about it, then yeah, Im doing the Latina thing, she wrote on her Twitter page late Wednesday. Unless of course shes talking about being multilingual, which we know isnt a Latina thing. Its a 21st century thing.
Ocasio-Cortez also said that Fox News hosts incorrectly pronounce her name as Cortez, because that sounds more stereotypically Hispanic + probably incites more anxiety for them.
Pro Tip: My last name is not Cortez, just as theirs isnt Ingra or Carl or Hann,' she said, referring to Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity.
Ingraham, on her Fox News show The Ingraham Angle on Tuesday, asked guest Joe diGenova if he had noticed how when Ocasio-Cortez pronounces her name does she take on that Obama, Obama put on accents?
She does the Latina thing where she does her, you know, Anastasio Ocasio-Cortez,' said diGenova, a conservative lawyer, exaggerating the pronunciation.
Ingraham went on to call Ocasio-Cortez the It Girl, and I mean girl in a very mature way.
Ocasio-Cortez continued to school the two on the correct use of her name.
My last name is Ocasio-Cortez. Full stop. Thats my name. No, you cant say Cortez. Ive never used that in my life, she said. Cortez is referring to someone else. Even if theyre trying to be rude + wrong, my dads last name was Ocasio anyway. (His name was hyphenated too, though.)

Subcomandante Alexi-nista.
Cute but stupid.

Got it half right, there.
Sandy needs to adapt to the culture here rather than force everyone to adopt her ways. We have naming conventions. Learn English.
Yes, indeed- we need to keep the pressure on the Fed. Elections Commission to enforce campaign finance law— federal law.
the uh, “small” matter of this nominal cortex’s boyfriend and official campaign “manager”... chakrabatii or whatever the hell his indian hindi socialist name is— DIVERTING $886,000 + to his business accounts.. his accounts set up as shells and they are living on the dough. This is palpable Theft— even to socialist morons, cause it is donor money. Little “Che’-quita” and her Ghandi-greed head wannabee are in serious trouble— this is not “OK”.
It’s piling up— the back stories and the current ones, and the utter lack of intellect and the FACT this idiot won an ACTING audition call (verified) by activist Leftist outfit fronts for the Communist (revcom.org— not even the CPUSA).
Personally I think making fun of someone’s name is a lot like using profanity - the vast majority of the time is indicates lack of brainpower, knowledge and a surfeit of ignorance on the part of the person doing it.
On rare occasions creative and funny but usually just makes one thing that the person doing it doesn’t really have anything to say or point to make.
That one always backfires with me, and most of my friends of whatever political spectruem.
I have more respect for most of the bartenders, baristas, and waiters/waitresses I know than I do for most of the congressmen I know of.
There’s no dishonor to that gig, and at kind of seems like someone is putting down honest hard working folk. Even if we’d both rather she be pouring drinks than making legislation.
Just a cranky .02
Sandy Wind Storm sounds good to me.
Occasional Cortex is better.
Sanguine.
My she using “Hey, Cortez!” as an abbreviation instead of “Hey, Stupid!”
That’s what we call her in our house.
Excellent!
She went by Sandy Ocasio in HS, so I think if they just switch to Ms. Ocasio, it should be allowed.
She stole others’ tips in the bar. She stole $1,000,000.00 from her campaign and hid it in her PAC. Now she is stealing taxpayer money. Character flaws never change.
I have several friends of various ethnic groups that, amongst friends, Anglicize their names and speak with zero accent, but turn on the ethnicity when it benefits them.
One was George, a base player in my son’s band. He decides it is time to grow up so he quits the band and goes to work for a software company and morphs into Jorge. It seems that his employer was trying to fill a quota and needed more Hispanics. George...er, Jorge...was 3rd generation American and spoke zero Spanish. His employer assumed that he was fluent in Spanish and made translating the manuals into Spanish part of his job. He has, for the past year, been using Duolingo to work on his Spanish and Google translate to do the heavy lifting.
