In 10 years we’ll see photos of malls and we will have the same feeling then as we now get seeing drive-up burger stands with rollerskater chicks delivering malts and burgers on trays.
Malls are hang-outs for urban yoots looking to make trouble:
Gangsta playpens.
Same with a lot of movie theaters, too, maybe.
It’s definitely a reverse economy....the less there is, the more you pay. And over the years I’ve found that the more dependent on it one is, the less interested I am....
I went to a large mall in a major city. I and a lady were walking on the second level over looking the court yard.
Seven black feral thugs were walking abreast taking up the entire walkway. We were forced to press ourselves against the railing overlooking the courtyard. I found a “security guard” ie “Mall Cop” and reported the incident. He “Thanks”.
I told the manager of the store we were going to: “Thanks for your great service in the past. Last time we will be here.” She “Yes we understand”. The mall closed last year!
Online buying -— to your door, sometime without sales tax, no gasoline usage, no hassles from feral Dem voters.
The old joke (uttered by a person with dark skin, therefore it is PC-permitted) is that there are two kinds of malls in America: The ones where white people go, and the ones where white people used to go.
I ordered an Omron blood pressure monitor cuff this morning from Amazon. It was on my porch at 1500.
The public square has been defouled by liberal policies

It’s right out of Atlas Shrugged, the deal mall phenomenon. We have a lot of them in PA. A friend of mine bought a deal mall and made himself a car dealership. I’m told the mall property cost him about as much as two new cars.
When it comes to clothing I want to try stuff on.
Sizes vary, and fits are something you can’t really tell until you have it on.
Colors in photos don’t remain the same when they hit your front door either.
Unfortunately not true for everyone. Some people need to try on before they buy. Whoever can come up with a way to "try on" clothes online will be the next Bezos and will drive the last nail into the retail coffin. Until then stores that sell clothing have a purpose.
What sent me to the mall was looking at clothes on the web and finding they only had XXL or XXS sizes. Drove me nuts — the summary images could have showed sizes in stock. But no, I had to click into each item of clothing to see if they had it in my size.
Then, at the mall, I found the medium size shirts by Brand X ran way too small and I needed to get a large, while shirts by Brand Y ran a normal size medium and I bought those in medium. Lack of standardization of sizes drives me nuts.
I confess I enjoy Bath & Body Works. I’m one of those young people you notice there. Me, I notice all the Mennonites. Maybe it’s a PA thing but I think I have never been in a BBW without spotting a Mennonite or Amish chick. (They are also found frequently in VS.)
I haven’t been to a mall in 25 years at least. I used to (and still do now and again) pop into Walmart for some items. Clothes and everything else I need get ordered online. It’s often cheaper and saves a LOT of aggravation.
While these overpriced stores dry up, Walmart will thrive...at least up here it does.
Amazon has try before you buy and free returns on most sold by Amazon clothing items.
That’s about as close as you can get. Until someone makes a app that can get your measurements with the camera.
(And I’ll bet someone is working on that now)
That horrible Trump, no doubt.
Orange man bad for economy.
Yes, you’ve touched on exactly the type of things that irritated me too.
It goes to material too. Something can look great in a picture and then you get it, and it’s scratchy.
I want to wear something that’s comfortable as well as decent looking.
Sonic appears to be doi g quite well with the drive and roller skates
The last six months have made my wife an online buyer.
She tried to buy a couple of table lamps at our Pier 1, and they didn’t have but one. They spent about an hour trying to get the lamps shipped from another store. There was no sale price and we would have had to pay a service charge to get the lamps delivered to the local store not our home.
When we got home, I got on line to Pier 1 and got the two lamps she wanted, delivered free and my Vet discount and a 30% off.
We needed new block out curtains for our bedroom to block the moon light after we and our neighbor had 4 trees removed as possible fire hazard. The unblocked moon made our bed room as lit up as our family room with lights. Bed Bath and Beyond sent the new curtains in a couple of days with zero delivery costs and 25% off.
My wife has used Shalimar products since the Cuban Missile Crisis where I bought some at the Gitmo exchange. Since then the outside cost has gotten very high and the nearest store was in a going down the hill mall about 30 minutes away. I get the Shalimar products delivered for free at the military exchange, with free delivery and no sales tax and 40% off regular price.
Our small portable vacuum cleaner died. I bought a Dyson D7 cordless for a little over $200, free delivery and no sales tax from the exchange.
I needed some new brown wool winter dress slacks. Our Botany 500 closed last fall. I bought name brand Merino Wool pants on sale at half off from Amazon and spent $10 to have the length of the pants altered.
My wife prefers Talbot and Home Depot gift cards. I prefer Amazon gift cards.
Our small freezer was dying. We went to Home Depot and bought a$600 name brand freezer on line, delivered/installed for free, old one taken away and a 4 year guarantee. With my Vet discount, everything was 10% off. The HD sales rep went on line and did the ordering for us. The new freezer was delivered in 4 days. We had bought a refrig and a washer via the same sales rep with similar savings and great service.
A friend’s Dyson Vacuum died after 10 years. I told him how to go on line and buy one from Walmart. They carry products in their warehouses and you can pick them up at the store in a couple of hours after you order them. He got one that afternoon and saved over $100.
We needed some items from Costco and had them shipped for free with a $50 order. Costco will be shipping grocery orders on same day or next day with free delivery on $100 orders. Our Zip code will have this great/save your back service soon.
Triple AAA will sell you a new vehicle battery at a great price and install it in your driveway and haul away the old one.
In a year or less, most grocery stores will deliver for free to your home for $50 orders or free pickup at a stand outside the store.
I bet Athleta is doing fine. Awesome stuff that lasts very well. A Gap Brand.
Where I live, the mall has gone more upscale and a lot of the shoppers are middle eastern, with various American ethnicities thrown in. The stores are pricier and I dont know how they stay in business, but lately its been cold and usually its hot, so no one wants to walk outside. I guess that helps the mall stay open.
