Can't say as I blame their reaction.

It’s incredibly sad what happened to this young man. It was also incredibly stupid to go into NK at all and doubly stupid for stealing while there. He didn’t deserve the death penalty even though that’s what it ended up being.

I’ve never been there but from what I know; the conditions are harsh for the people of NK so it stands to reason they would be triple harsh for any prisoners and double that for an American prisoner.

I hope his death taught the American people something so that it wasn’t completely in vain.

I don’t believe Trump offered up “lavish praise” and pounding on this issue at a time of sensitive negotiations is not prudent.

If it weren’t for Trump, they would have never seen their cild again dead or alive. This is the left wing media trying to slime Trump over his answering the only way he could in the current situation. It’s sleazy writing and it’s disgusting.

Yep. If Trump had a reason for saying what he did, he should have kept it between him and Kim. Stupid move because he gave the left ammunition all the way to 2020 not to mention he insulted the family.

If trump has to fake some praise for Kim so be it. There is a lot more at stake than this stupid kid and his parents.

I agree with Otto’s parents on this. It was a cruel and horrible gaffe on Trump’s part. He got all weepy at SOTU over parents who lost children to criminal acts by illegals. But he is willing to give that little fat NoKo prick a pass on the terrible murder of the Warmbier’s son. No, No, and No!

They raised an idiot & then sat back and said nothing as their idiot child got the idea that going on vacation to a Stalinist dictatorship would be load of grin & giggles instead of slapping some sense into him! They are as much to blame as the NORKS!

Yeah, bad answer from Trump there. Do I think NK wanted to kill Otto? No. They don’t kill American prisoners, and after whatever occurred to him, they put him in the hospital for a year & contacted the U.S. so he wouldn’t die on their soil. I don’t know what happened to Otto. However, American prisoners have value, and it’s hard to believe that something happened without Kim knowing. It’s possible a guard went rogue, but again, considering the value of U.S. prisoners, it seems unlikely.

No, me neither but Trump is responsible for many many people’s saftey and if he has to dance a wee bit getting it done that is how it has to be.

Trump walked from the deal to be sure that complete verified denuclearization is accomplished but if he can accomplish that he will have plenty of time to make the point that NK needs to improve it’s human rights actions. To squander the leverage of the carrot of joining the world stage and economic prosperity to scold this dictator would be foolish in the extreme.

It’s a lot for this family to bear in any case. May God great them peace.

They had an extremely foolhardy son who STOLE from a country in which he was not allowed to visit.

I believe illegals are game to be killed, as they are breaking and entering and all Americans should be able to defend our collective home. Being an illegal AND stealing sets that up quite fairly to me.

Do I think Kim lies on this issue. Yes.

If Trump said he believed Kim, then yes I think that was wrong.

I think should have said nothing.

And as much as I think the man was wrong to go to North Korea - that sufficient knowledhge of the brutality of the regime was well published before hand - NOTHING excuses what happened to him while imprisoned in the North’s dictatorship. NOTHING.

Trump said Kim, the Wambiers said Kim and his regime.

Typical liberal displacement.

Their real problem is they cannot admit that their leftist views are ultimately responsible for their son’s pro-communist naivete.

I don’t see why, in the first place, Trump had to make a public statement in this matter. Whatever he had to say should have been discussed with the parents privately. It was ridiculous, thought so at the time, and knew the parents would push back and this would bite Trump.

They are right that the North Korean regime is responsible for what happened to their son. Unfortunately we will never learn the truth about WHO exactly did what to him, most likely those prison guards at whatever facility he was being held in got pissed off at him and did God knows what to him. Did Kim Jong Un order it, who knows, we will never know. Other hostages came back healthy(underweight but otherwise healthy) so what happened to Otto, we will never know those answers

If Trump can get a deal that means NK will dump the nukes then that means that Otto did not die in vain.

Guys, check Trump’s TWitter feed.

Looks to me like Axios is trying to gin up a game of lets-you-and-him-fight.

How about we don’t oblige.

I agree with their conclusion, as far as their son’s fate was concerned.

Now, what do you do about that?

Do we shove that fact in Kim’s face and simply cast any chance of a non-nuclear agreement out the window?

Life simply isn’t fair at times. What kid by 18 years of age hasn’t whined, “But that isn’t fair!”, a hundred times?

This is one time when the good of the many does outweigh the rights of the few.

Should we go to the U.N., accuse Kim and get nothing over a period of time. Or should we do the best we can to obtain a non-nuclear North Korea that has morphed into a nation that is still evil, but is not intent on sending nuclear weapons to our territory or the territory of our allies?

Parents, you have my deepest sympathy. I wish things had turned out different. May God help you come to terms with this.

I don’t like it, but that’s the way it is.

The loss of their son is tragic. But shame on them! If it weren’t for President Trump, they would never have seen their son, again, dead or alive. Have a little gratitude! Fyi, Wikipedia just refuses to give President Trump credit for anything. The Otto Warmbier page says, “In June, 2017, the U.S.government secured his release”. Dogs!
