Corruption. It’s what invariably happens when a few people are given too much power. Look at any of the 3rd-world countries and you see the same thing. That is one of the reasons why the Founding fathers divided up the power in so many ways - to prevent greedy people from accumulating power. Even if a nation starts well with a benign dominating ruler, if it continues to concentrate its political power, it will inevitably attract greedy people who want to dominate others.

Mandela was a murdering psychopath. He was also the handmaiden of powerful forces. Explain how he was able to travel to the UN while still serving a sentence in prison. How did he get a University degree?
In short, the Dutch OWNED that land SA was built upon. The Black and Indian workers were imported, but not allowed to be citizens, hence them living in their own areas. They came for jobs, and stayed to take over. Very similar to what the Mexicans/Latinos/Central Americans will do in the USA.
What was wrong with Apartheid? The SA government kept these primitive tribesmen from killing one another, used them for work for which they willingly took pay, and provided some access to a 1st world country to boot.
It was the country that the Dutch built on unoccupied African land. The only sparse inhabitants were the bushman, who have long now been chased away or slaughtered. The blacks in SA today, have no link to the land but what the White Afrikaaners drew them to when they were in need of a job. Really similar to what the Mexicans provide for the US.
South Africa’s problems aren’t racial. The ANC is the problem.
