10 Scary Facts Indicating South Africa Is Becoming The Next Venezuela
The Federalist ^ | 22 Feb 2019 | Anonymous

It has been a quarter-century since South Africans of all colors and creeds lined up with each other to patiently wait their turn to vote for their first government that was not dependent on brutal racial engineering.

In 1994 the country was a coiled spring ready to unleash enormous latent economic and human potential. As South West Africa became Namibia and the legal edifices of apartheid were swept away, South Africa suddenly had the opportunities and goodwill that had been denied it for the better part of 30 years.

All that promise is gone. South Africa has squandered its opportunities and is on the path to becoming a failed state. These are the top ten reasons, in no particular order, why South Africa is becoming the next Venezuela.

10. Affirmative-Action Absurdities

Racial quotas are a sacrament in the New South Africa—fine filaments of prejudice strangling every aspect of the society from sport to mining licenses to medical school access.

Modern race engineering offers Kafkaesque absurdities. The national rugby team is required to field a side that is “55% black” rather than 100 percent competitive. Since each team comprises 15 men, at least 8.25 of them must be black to satisfy the quota police. It is entirely unclear how the fractions will be settled—possibly by juggling injury substitutions or manipulating DNA tests.

The corrosiveness of quotas and the low expectations it engenders are everywhere apparent as South Africa slides closer to an abyss littered with the corpses of failed states that have gone before it.

My first impulse was to reply, "by rounding up," in otherwords, 8.25 becomes 9.

But, your solution might be better--go to 23andMe, and decide how many magic black drops of blood each player has, and apply them against the team quota.

That could set a pilot for the projected US reparations. If you're "all" black, you get so many dollars. If you're half black, you get a little, if you're as black as Lizzy Warren is Cherokee, you pay, pay, and pay. No more box checking.

Not really true. Mandela was genuinely benevolent. The ANC could have and should have followed in his footprints after his death. Instead they imitated Robert Mugabe.

Same story all over the world. Uneducated, greedy politicos doing whatever it takes to solidify their position and personal wealth. Today white South African farmers are actually migrating to Russia. Try imagining that scenario forty years ago.

the article is proof of the writer’s ignorance and racism

South Africa is on track to become zimbabwe. Tribal racism is shaping South Africa, not socialism

As long as it is corrupt blacks, forget any outcry from here or Europe. All is well when blacks loots the economy.

Mandela and the world had a few decades to see what Africa without white people looks like; while the Rwanda genocide was underway at the time of his election, it was but the latest in a string of such incidents (remarkable only in scale) that beset young African countries as the whites either left or prepared to leave. The Mau Mau in Kenya, the crippling of Uganda following the expulsion of its middle class Indians, the simultaneous Katanga secession and Simba revolts in Congo, the mass reprisals against blacks who had served the Portuguese in Guinea-Bissau (7,500 executed after the Portuguese left), Mugabe genocide in Matabeleland - while some of these were directed at whites, far more blacks were targeted by the new ruling black governments.

Mandela was no saint, but he understood what Ian Smith feared when he refused to turn over power in Rhodesia in 1965 (when the Congo bloodshed - especially the mass murder of whites - was fresh in the news); South Africa is no exception to the dynamics involved (see the ANC-Zulu conflict), and much of the blood that would be shed is that of blacks.

“Mandela was genuinely benevolent...”

Mandela was a communist.

“The corrosiveness of quotas and the low expectations it engenders“

Zimbabwe doesn’t have quotas. The Congo doesn’t have quotas. Liberia doesn’t have quotas (but it does have a wonderful constitution!). Sierra Leone doesn’t have quotas. Central African Republic doesn’t have quotas. South Sudan doesn’t have quotas. Angola doesn’t have quotas.

Need I go on?

What you refer to as “low expectations” are simple empiricism. Anybody with any concept of reality in 1994 knew EXACTLY where SA would be in 2019 and said so repeatedly.

Do not endlessly repeat the mistakes of the past. The state of the world is not the result of anyone’s expectations.

There are some claims in that article I didn’t know.

The inflation rate in SA isn’t too bad now, around 5%.

When that starts taking off we know it’s becoming Venezuela.

You think you’ve seen bloodshed in Africa?
Just wait until China grabs a bit more.
They need the land for their people.
They don’t have the Christian guilt or “Morality” to get in their way of domination.
Folks will be dreaming of the good ole days with Ian running things.
