Hoosiers will heat homes and businesses less but rely more on air conditioning as Indianas climate warms, said a group of Purdue University researchers.
Indiana residents will also get more of their energy from natural gas and renewable sources as those become more cost-effective throughout the rest of the century, according to a report by the Purdue Climate Change Research Center.
For energy utilities, the impact could mean adding storage capacity for additional demand and planning for brown-outs.
They just need to be on their toes and shape the energy supply with the timing, the amount, the locations where theyre supplying, the type of plans that are generating power, said Jeff Dukes, director of the research center.
Hoosiers may need to seek state legislation that authorizes carbon taxes on utility companies, or individual tax credits for switching to renewable energy sources, the report notes.
A $40 per ton carbon tax is seen as one way to promote reducing emissions; such a tax, figured as a conservative amount, would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 10 percent annually, researchers said.
Most economists believe a carbon tax of $100 or more is whats necessary to effectively reduce carbon emissions, but this shows that even a modest tax would be a powerful incentive, said Leigh Raymond, a political science professor at Purdue.

Wow. Such insightful analysis.
Like when the heat goes up, like well use less heat and stuff but like, use more AC. Tee hee. Im helping!
This is the state of academia today.
“_Purdue researchers: Climate change will impact energy use”
My heating bill is outrageous this winter.
Here to say our new hvac is working well. Nice and toasty. Can’t wait to see how it cools this summer.
No s#it! Just think what our heating bills would be if the glaciers hadn’t retreated...
“Wow. Such insightful analysis.”
Indeed. I will generalize: x affects y where x and y are any noun.
“Hoosiers may need to seek state legislation that authorizes carbon taxes on utility companies, or individual tax credits for switching to renewable energy sources, the report notes.”
As long as climate change only affects Indiana I’m safe although I have cousin there who I’d hate to see suffer.
“This is the state of academia today.”
Academia is wildly out of control and the boards of regents useless as teats on a boar.
Hmm, it’s mid morning and I’ve only seen one of the mandatory three minimum climate change lies.
From Purdue, no less.
Guess the progressive cancer is eating its way into STEM, but given what we’ve seen about the cheating, data alteration, piss poor math analysis, and dishonesty in the Climate Research Clown show, perhaps we should term Climate Research as “Pseudo-STEM”.
But, but, the Eddy Minimum is here and Indiana in ten years will be so much colder than now that they will drop about two climate zones. Think a loss of 3 weeks of frost free days in the spring and another 3 weeks in the fall. It will be more significant than the Mounder Minimum. Massive worldwide famine is in our future. We will need every molecule of C02 to grow food.
Name the researchers!!!
Name the researchers!!!
This is what you get from engineers who start with a political slant on any problem.
Are they leaving their abode going outside now wearing T shirts and shorts ? And will that happen around Memorial Day ? If not maybe it’s time to examine the scientific studies of solar and earths magnetic cycles which man can not control.
France is the most nuke-dependent country on earth, more than 70% of their total electricity, and this from about 20 nuclear power plants.
The US Navy operates 86 nuclear reactors. They're all on floating mobile platforms (except for the submarines, which sometimes don't float). In fact the US Navy has been operating nuclear reactors since 1955 and they've killed no one in that time. On the other hand, even with 21st Century safety standards, coal mine accidents continue to kill about 10 miners a year. Which doesn't include "industrial diseases."
Hows your winter this year Hoosiers ?
Expect it to get worse in coming years.
Both in the amount of energy you use, and its increasing price due to higher overall demand.
It is a fact that it is cheaper to air condition than it is to heat.

Just as Obama planned.
It is a fact that it is cheaper to air condition than it is to heat.
