U.S. Government and Top Mexican Drug Cartel Exposed as Partners
New American ^ | Tuesday, 14 January 2014 | Alex Newman

For over a decade, under multiple administrations, the U.S. government had a secret agreement with the ruthless Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel that allowed it to operate with impunity, an in-depth investigation by a leading Mexican newspaper confirmed this week. In exchange for information and assistance in quashing competing criminal syndicates, the Bush and Obama administrations let the Sinaloa cartel import tons of drugs into the United States while wiping out Sinaloa competitors and ensuring that its leaders would not be prosecuted for their long list of major crimes. Other revelations also point strongly to massive but clandestine U.S. government involvement in drug trafficking.

Relying on over 100 interviews with current and former government functionaries on both sides of the border, as well as official documents from the U.S. and Mexican governments, Mexico’s El Universal concluded that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the U.S. Justice Department had secretly worked with Mexican drug lords. The controversial conspiring led to increased violence across Mexico, where many tens of thousands have been murdered in recent years, the newspaper found after its year-long probe. The U.S. agents and their shady deals with Mexican drug lords even sparked what the paper called a “secret war” inside Mexico.

I will let the reader judge who is negative and who is realist.

The man who sees and accepts the reality of a decades long drug war that has led to financing our enemies in Iran, Afghanistan and elsewhere, corruption in our criminal justice system, narco terrorism and a virtual narco state on our southern border, all with no end in sight, no hope of winning this war, with billions and billions lost and innumerable lives ruined and with hundreds of thousands of wretched deaths.

Citing the real human tragedy of a misbegotten war on drugs is not to be negative but to be realistic. If one does not realistically understand the problem, if one lives in a dream world, the problem will never be solved. Churchill said in , The Gathering Storm, "facts are better than dreams". You want us to dream on while we live in nightmare.

Who of us is negative? The man who offers no solution, indeed, nothing positive despite being invited to do so several times to disguise the inevitable gaping vacuity in any man who resorts to personal insult time and again. The man who defines realism to be "negativity."

The man who lives in a dream world instead of in the world of facts.

I am content to let the reader judge this record as presented here.

Singapore is a smaller city state with draconian laws. For example, is it worse to get caught smoking a joint or to get caught throwing the butt of the joint on the ground?

Singapore is an Asian country which does not come from our Judeo-Christian, enlightenment background but is far more comfortable with authoritarianism than we are. I don't think you can have the kind of enforcement of drug laws that occur in Singapore without the whole panoply of laws enforced in Singapore. That is not our heritage.

That you could be that naive and ill-educated enough to believe that the Drug War was winnable, despite the evidence, is a true pinnacle of Stupid

know what? people like you said the same thing about Trump winning the presidency.

congrats, along with beauregard for the negativity sweepstakes.

I think the entire congress should be investigated under RICO law. but we have seen many bigwigs, and I do mean BIGWIGS who NEVER thought they'd see consequences, fail. bigtime.

we all know drugs fund politicians, left and right.     if Donald Trump wins a second term, we just might find out who the narco-politicians are.

Uh oh... Another “conspiracy” come true about our virtuous government. Some of us “tinfoil hatters” have known for years.

how gracious of you

your negativity is a reflection of your soul; it's sad that you see the corruption in dc as eternal.      I still feel your comrades at DU are more amenable to this line of defeat than the patriots here at FR.

The CIA needs the drug income to finance their black projects all over the world.

About those border towns that don't want a wall. One can't help but wonder, considering the revelations in this article, if those towns aren't infected beyond repair with people who are profiting from the drug (and probably human trafficking) trade.

Why don't more people get it, just how vile and relentless the forces that have nearly completed the destruction of the US are?

Shut up. It is stupid for you to tell bedford he is part of the “dumbocrats”. That couldn’t be further from the truth. He is right that the drug runners have won. Most of the country is on some kind of drugs. Further he is right about the eternal corruption of those in power. If that makes you uncomfortable, too damn bad. Deal with it. Don’t start calling names. Sign of idiocy.

Well?
Name ONE successful government drug interdiction. You know, one battle.
One place in the US of A that doesn't have a drug problem, after a CENTURY of "enforcement", nationwide?
How about a single drug that isn't available, on the street, today, anywhere in the country?

As my father, the old Drill Instructor, used to say, "Put up or shut up."

I saw a movie last night on Prime called Infiltrator based on true events in 1985. One of the Cartel top dogs mentioned that the Federal Reserve was also laundering money from the Mexican Gov’t, doesn’t surprise me.

My intent was to contrast Nk’s draconian systems with Singapore’s. They are also much more prosperous per capita then NK.

So if one was stuck living in one place or the other in terms of draconian drug laws, where would you want to live?

I’d choose to chafe a bit and live in Singapore! You had mentioned NK but Singapore is a far more successful enterprise than NK. They do have a great deal more personal freedoms than NK but don’t get caught vandalizing street signs!

it's sad that you see the corruption in dc as eternal.

It is sad that you do not see the corruption in DC as eternal. Obviously, you would be uneasy in the presence of the founders and the framers whose main object in creating our government was to check the inevitable corruption in any government. They succeeded to produce a work of genius but do not confuse their understanding of the inherent corruption in governments with lack of patriotism- as you seem in these exchanges to be prone to do.

I have unbounded faith and confidence in the United States, the country but virtually no faith or confidence in the government which reposes in Washington DC. I advise you to wake up, you can be better than Pollyanna.

your negativity is a reflection of your soul

In your repeated insults you have now moved on to judge my soul and it is regrettable, although illuminating, that by this latest insult you brought religion into this discussion. Obviously, you are ignorant of the Judeo-Christian fundamental belief in the inherent corruption of man. I suggest you bone up on the Old and the New Testament.

Have a look at Dennis Prager who makes rather compelling arguments that whether one is leftist or rightist depends on whether one believes in the inherent goodness of man. Leftists believe in the inherent goodness of man, the inherent perfectibility of man, and find evil not in wrongdoers but in bad social programs. Those who are not naïve understand the fallen nature of man, his need for redemption, and his responsibility for his actions. The divine truths of the Bible are not negative, they are realistic. Yes I am negative about Washington DC, that is the place that gave us first prohibition and now the war on drugs. That is the difference between government and country, between naivety and realism.

We lost the war called "prohibition," just as we have lost the war on drugs. Are you prepared to get used to losing the war called "prohibition"? Oh, how negative you have become!

Do not confuse dreams with patriotism. Sunshine patriots live in dreams but real patriots live in reality.

how gracious of you.

I said I was content to let the reader judge I did not presume to grant the reader the right to judge. This is typical of your twists.
