McDonald’s customers craving the fast food giant’s famous Shamrock Shake struck gold this week. The popular minty green milkshake — made from McDonald’s vanilla soft serve blended with Shamrock Shake syrup and topped with whipped topping — is officially back on the menu, the company announced on Twitter, Thursday. Shamrock Shakes have have earned an impressive cult following over the years since McDonald’s first debuted the beverage in 1970. Like the McRib, Shamrock Shakes only come to the Golden Arches for a limited time.

California Roast Beef—thin-sliced roast beef with a mid chile (pepper) on a good bun.

One of Carl's best sandwiches ever (and don't forget the swiss cheese). They also had a steak sandwich that was excellent ... also long gone.

I just checked out his Wagyu beef video.
https://youtu.be/4sMejozB6XU

So the Wagyu beef everyone is so crazy about is nothing more than good old fashioned well marbled beef! The very thing the food NAZIS said was going to kill us all!

I never ate waygu but it is well marbled, super tender with great flavor. That video saved you a trip to Japan to find out.

Growing up, I used to beg my mother to take me there when the Shamrock Shakes were in season (mid-Feb to end of March). Haven't had one since maybe 1977. Will never have one again knowing how they are made and how much added sugar they have (82 grams per 16 oz shake - more than three days worth of what you should max out at).

Here is a vintage 1970s ad that I remember growing up with.

I think it’s a mistake, McDonald’s going the gourmet route. Too many choices, it’s a chore just to try and read the menu now.

They should go retro, keep it simple, same hamburger patties & fries of old. “McDonald’s is my kind of place” instead of that gangster “im lovin’ it” garbage. A nice cheery family oriented atmosphere, commercials with Ronald McDonald, Mayor McCheese, Captain Crook, Hamburglar, the whole crew. A nice safe place for kids.

It was meant to be good, consistent, “fast food” not a gourmet dining experience. There is a niche for both types of places and McDonald’s would be foolish to move away from what they do best.

I should have made that comment in my cheesy Irish brogue.

“There is a niche for both types of places and McDonald’s would be foolish to move away from what they do best.”

Only problem is McDonald’s hasn’t been the best in their field for awhile. Nothing they sells tastes nearly as good as it did way back when.

They tried some innovation with the McCafe that seems to have worked. Other things they’ve half-assed, like their over hyped thickburger knockoff.

Whether we like it or not fast food is changing. McDonald’s can either be a leader again or end up a dead company.
Maybe a basic menu with the classics and an expanded menu with new items is the best approach for now.

Doesn’t this amount to culturally appropriative “green face” — or something?

Yup. The swiss cheese and the Ortega chili made that sandwich. I miss it whenever I see a Carl's.

Another thread where a bunch of people can express their hatred of multiple fast food items.

No mention at the link of the “black and tan” ice cream sundae? Vanilla ice cream layered with chocolate and caramel syrup? Yum. Featured at Fenton’s of East SF Bay fame.

IIRC, Carl's tried bringing it back some years ago, but it just didn't make it. Too bad.

Just learned that Carl Jr’s California Roast Beef sandwich is set to make another comeback.

I feel blessed to live in a location where the franchises are run just about the best I can imagine...and no employee problems. Same franchise owner since I was about 12 and I am now Medicare age.
