I think it’s a mistake, McDonald’s going the gourmet route. Too many choices, it’s a chore just to try and read the menu now.

They should go retro, keep it simple, same hamburger patties & fries of old. “McDonald’s is my kind of place” instead of that gangster “im lovin’ it” garbage. A nice cheery family oriented atmosphere, commercials with Ronald McDonald, Mayor McCheese, Captain Crook, Hamburglar, the whole crew. A nice safe place for kids.

It was meant to be good, consistent, “fast food” not a gourmet dining experience. There is a niche for both types of places and McDonald’s would be foolish to move away from what they do best.

Only problem is McDonald’s hasn’t been the best in their field for awhile. Nothing they sells tastes nearly as good as it did way back when.

They tried some innovation with the McCafe that seems to have worked. Other things they’ve half-assed, like their over hyped thickburger knockoff.

Whether we like it or not fast food is changing. McDonald’s can either be a leader again or end up a dead company.
Maybe a basic menu with the classics and an expanded menu with new items is the best approach for now.
