Chattel slavery did not exist in the early colonial years, Africans were in fact indentured servants up to the case of Anthony Johnson and John Casor. After that ill-fated legal decision, chattel slavery began, in 1655.

Having vry recenty visited the homes of the Virginia slave holding presidents the word used to describe the condition is enslaved. The black African people forced to live and work on the plantations were enslaved.
The primary focus of these homes is now ensavement rather than the greatness of the founding fathers. Virginia has literally gone to hell

History is not clear on the specifics of the Africans arriving in Virginia in 1619. And their were plenty of indentured servants arriving among the white folks.
1. It is NOT the merits of what Northam did or didn’t do.
2. It IS the media’s reaction to what Northam did or didn’t do.
