SANDUSKY, Ohio - The city of Sandusky will no longer recognize Columbus Day as an official holiday.
Instead of having the day as a paid holiday, city workers will have off on Election Day.
City officials said they decided to make the switch for two reasons. It prioritizes voting. The move also recognizes Columbus Day’s controversial origins.
“What better way to celebrate the value of our employees and citizens than by removing barriers for them to participate in the greatest of American innovations, our democracy,” the city said on Facebook.

What barriers? Polls are open for 12 hours. There are also absentee ballots. This has nothing to do with voting, but is a cowardly way to end celebration of Columbus.
I will predict that every city employee will ask for Monday off as well for a four day weekend and chances are there will be fewer people voting (hmmm that may be a good idea).
If I read this right, they traded a yearly holiday for one that will now only come around every 2 years and on Tuesday.
If they hate Columbus so much, then move out of the Western Hemisphere.
Considering this is Ohio, they should probably rename their capital.
Most states have election day as a paid half day anyway.
In effect, people lost a half day holiday.
Sandusky needs to change their name before anyone takes them seriously.
So that move would mean no holidays from Labor Day ( Sept 2 ) until Election Day ( Nov 5 ). Columbus Day is Oct 14. Nov is just right on holidays with Veteran’s Day on Nov 11 and Thanksgiving on Nov 28. One more holiday in November would make the month about useless and the libtards know it. They will then use the move to change one of the existing November holidays because they hate America.

Elections should be done on Saturday. More turnout. No early voting. Allow seniors to vote a day early to uncrowd the lines. Make the Friday Veterans Day. 3 day weekend for those who don’t vote.

- Columbus Day is a Monday holiday. Election day is Tuesday. No long weekend.
- On any vacation day, more people might go out of town instead of bothering to vote.
