It's today's outrage on the internets. Just wait until RAT states figure out that the cap on deducting state tax is $10k.

Never owed a cent until this year and it was over 400 dollars!

So far, as I prepare my return, I’m owing rather than getting a refund from this filthy government. The tax code is an abomination and disgrace.

Getting a refund means you gave the gubmit a free loan.

I got the biggest refund I've ever received. I was blown away when the numbers came in on TurboTax. Having a fourth child last year coupled with the increase in the child tax credit was what did it.

Thanks President Trump! Thanks Senator Rubio!

My return was much smaller this year, but I was anticipating it.

SALT cap at 10k hurt. And, there’s a 750k cap on mortgage interest deductions for debt assumed after Dec 15, 2017.

The volume of outrage will increase as 15 April approaches.

IMHO, withholding by the guvmnt should not take place. Let the IRS send a bill at the end of the year and make everyone send them a check; then you’ll see some REAL tax reform.

They’ve plundered the dependents aspect of 2018, some for good reason (illegal infiltrators abusing the system). They’ve made it where if someone’s grandmother shakily stoops down to retrieve a penny from a parking lot she’s declared as having too much income and therefore can’t be claimed.

Here's why your refund may not be as high as you expect under the new tax law

Because you were smart and didn't get overwithheld in the first place?

Have to pay about 200 bucks again this year (maybe a little more) - so I send the check out on April 10th. Like hell if I’m going to let them hold my cash interest-free.

This was an unusual year for several reasons (job change, relocation, higher salary until the contract ended early). Normally, I wind up owing $100-$200 when it is all over. This year, it will be $300 but I pushed myself into a higher bracket with the new job.

I’m not unhappy about it though. So much good came from the tax changes and, I believe, I would have made money had I stayed at the old rate.

One bit of advice for those with 401Ks. If you have some wiggle room to throw some money into it, you can still do so before April 15th and claim it as a deduction on 2018 which could drop you into a lower tax bracket if you are already close to the bottom of that bracket. Lowering your overall rate is the best way to move the needle downward.

I received more of my money from wages over the course of the year because of Trump’s tax plan. Still got a small refund but overall paid 3000 less in federal taxes. And I live in California with property taxes and interest beyond the limit.

I got about the same return as last year....,.BUT, the tax on my monthly pension check was reduced by approx. $56 per month....So that was about $600 more in my pocket for the year.

Yeah, they reduced my witholding and I didn’t really notice that it happened. So, my 4th quarter estimated payment was a little higher. Whatever.

What I can also say is that when I plugged my 2017 numbers into my 2018 tax software, I would have paid $1800 less in taxes, all else being equal.

Thanks President Trump!!!

I added another withholding the past year to decrease the size of my refund.......because I don’t like making interest free loans to the government. It worked. My take home pay is higher and my refund is half the size it was. I need to consider adding another. Ideally, I’d owe after filing my taxes but not quite enough to trigger a penalty.

One day last week, all my liberal friends posted that they didn’t see their taxes go down because they weren’t ultra-wealthy. It was many that I figured it had to be a new talking point.

Instead of withholding as much throughout the year, the government gave it to the people to spend

How magnanimous of them to "give" me more of my money...

As an exercise to get your blood really boiling. You can plug your current numbers into the 1913 Income Tax form. It is a whopping 4 pages, and that includes the instructions.
