But on January 30, in the aftermath of his discussion on the Wall Street Journal column with Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, Pipes wrote that Trump is the most pro-Israel president ever
A week after raising doubts on President Donald Trumps deal of the century to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a leading Mideast policy expert reversed course and affirmed Trump as the most pro-Israel president ever.
..................
Doesn't necessarily sound good, but the key is implementation. Which imo is impossible since there is no negotiating partner. In fact no one in control, much less able to negotiate a binding agreement. Other than terrorists.
Oslo, on the other hand, sounded great. Implementation was a process of denying the palestinians broken promises.
Not very bright.
To the contrary, Mogger, if President Trump were to push the new plan for Israel and the Palestinian arabs, his support among the people in Israel and the Evangelical Christians in the US would be substantially reduced. It seems to me that he has been de-emphasizing the so-called Deal of the Century, and leaving it to Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblat.
Nevertheless I am certain that nobody who loves Israel believes that President Trump is “out to get” it.
“Can’t be much of an “expert” if it took him this long to figure it out. Not very bright.”
Pipes is one of the half dozen or so people in the world who puts his life on the line every day in trying to inform the world about Islam. Having the guy on Trump’s side is definitely a big deal.
But like you, I don’t know what his initial problem was, although it wouldn’t surprise me if he was upset by something the teeny-boppers in the White House was pushing - since most of us here have been upset at the same.
The President knows there will be no peace between Israel and Palestine ever.
So, he did what was necessary to strengthen Israel and moved the US Embassy to Jerusalem. That action is being followed by other nations.
Rather than play the same old game, President Trump created a brand new game
All those writing about the old game are totally irrelevant
Trump is more pro Israel then many Jews that for the Rats year after year.
So, the expert is really an idiot.
But too many American Jews call Trump worse than Hitler. I’m in Broward county and hear this crap constantly.
It’s baloney anyway. The Jews are joined at the hip with the democrats. Doesn’t matter what Trump says or does. The Jews will go with the Party of the Donkey. Hard to understand.
Hard to compete with Harry Truman, who blocked Dean Atchison’s plan to keep Israel from being born. By the Grace of God, even Stalin went along with Israel’s birth.
Palestine was an artificial construct invented by the Soviet Union. The Palestine Liberation Organization was created in 1964 when the USSR was still going strong.
As someone who lives in Jerusalem, I believe that Israel can have peace with the Palestinians but not with a Palestinian state. Prime Minister Netanyahu — and I am convinced that he is doing this with the encouragement of President Trump — has been doing a fantastic job of finessing the Palestinian entity and developing relationships with Arab and Muslim countries from Western Africa to the corners of South Asia.
Iran’s bullying is making it possible for Israel to develop not only covert, but even overt relationships with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Dubai, and other countries in the region, under the rule that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
Some 20% of Israel is Muslim. Many Israelis, including myself, interact with them on a daily basis and invariably those interactions are pleasant. When Israel is able to annex Judea and Samaria (a/k/a the West Bank), grant citizenship to the Arabs who live there if they want it, and vigorously enforce the laws against civil insurrection, murder, etc., I am convinced that the Palestinian nationalists will go the way of the South Moluccans (remember them?). In my opinion, we are several years away from that happening. Meanwhile, as Israel integrates more into the world and continues to grow more confident, it becomes more appealing on an individual basis for Palestinian arabs to want to join us.
Yes...... You have described the new game
What about Gaza and the people million+ who live in UNRWA camps? Surely Israel cannot absorb these populations along with the population of the West Bank.
I have no idea what the “deal of the century” will be, but I imagine that even if it carved out a Palestinian nationstate in the West Bank that the Palestinians themselves would reject any attempt to absorb these refugees en mass.
