Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who went from tending bar to the halls of the Capitol, slammed former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz after he dismissed her proposal for a tax on the nation’s wealthiest, asking why billionaire candidates are not told they have to “work their way up.”
“Why don’t people ever tell billionaires who want to run for President that they need to ‘work their way up’ or that ‘maybe they should start with city council first?'” she wrote on her Twitter page Wednesday.
Ocasio-Cortez, at 29 the youngest member of Congress, fired back at Schultz after he said he couldn’t campaign as a Democrat because he would be unable to support a tax plan that she is pitching.
“I respect the Democratic Party. I no longer feel affiliated because I don’t know their views represent the majority of Americans. I don’t think we want a 70 percent income tax in America,” Schultz, who’s running as an independent, told CNBC in an interview on Monday.

well she has a point, why should older billionaires who’ve successfully run companies, understood economics and finance have a free pass (to try) to run for president when 20 something bar tenders who have all that life experience aren’t eligible? /s

Her story is also a case study in what makes a hostile work environment. What happened to the other attorneys in the office who didn't get promoted? What was the career message that was sent to them?

Given she had a degree from BU with a minor in economics, the fact that the best she could/would do was tending bar in New York City is very telling.
