Many right-wing figures lined up Friday night to criticize President Donald Trump for temporarily ending the government shutdown for three weeks without having convinced Congress to fund his proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall.
Controversial commentator Ann Coulter called Trump “the biggest wimp ever to serve as president” and Fox Business host Lou Dobbs said Trump had been “whipped” by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
Fox News’ Sean Hannity, however, had a different take.
The “Hannity” host, who is a staunch supporter of the president and even joined him on stage at a Missouri rally ahead of the 2018 midterms, insisted that Trump still “holds all the cards” when it comes to negotiating with Congress for the wall.
Hannity claimed that Trump would simply declare a national emergency to obtain the funds if he couldn’t seal a deal for the wall with Congress during the next three weeks that the government is reopened...

Hannity was the one who claimed that he had been hearing behind the scenes from ‘rats in the House and Senate for several weeks that they wanted to negotiate including money for a wall, but couldn’t get their leaders to go along - this is the line that might have convinced Trump to end the shutdown for now on the hopes that the troops could talk some sense into Pelosi and Schumer in a few weeks - I hope Hannity wasn’t just blowing smoke....
A shutdown damage assessment by the Executive team likely indicates a spike very shortly. Pelosi is clearly on record as saying she will not negotiate and that a wall is immoral. Trump's most recent action appears to both avoid such a damage spike and is a formal plea to continue negotiations.
The latter may well be deemed a precondition to a successful declaration of emergency - a precondition that would preempt an injunction by a lower fed court or justify an expedited USSC hearing.
There is a law from the '70s which apparently gives the president such authority, even if he doesn't declare a national emergency. Of course the leftists would judge shop and find one that would order him to stop it. But it is past time for him to do as much as he dares toward shoring up, repairing and even building new miles of border barrier.
Maybe concertina wire in some places and a new steel barrier in others.
Who cares? At least it’s something to show Trump is leading on this.

The Dems weren’t going to concede funds for the wall no matter how long the government was shut down. Trump tried it for 35 days but as usual the squishy pubs in the Senate caved. Trump had to change course and plan in an emergency declaration instead and this is how he is going about it for a number of reasons.
He has literally reiterated his stance on the wall repeatedly yesterday and today. He wouldn’t keep lying about it if he caved and drag the shame out until his reelection bid he would take the hit now and hope it went away.
Trump is not a quitter. Remember Kavanaugh? He could have caved there also and picked another candidate but he saw it through to the end despite it looking bleak at times.

Hey - I got grief yesterday for posting “what is this bullshit!?” when he started giving his speech, and it was only the last line of it that saved the whole thing for me.
It’s not that people criticize President Trump that bothers me - not at all, because I do so myself often enough (like his choice of FBI director and Attorney General, for instance), but it’s the “chicken little” tone of a lot of people who sound like they’re just happy as hell at every little set back - not upset by it, that disturbs me. I guess some people just want that glass to be half-empty, no matter what, so they can justify being miserable.
