If you are building a wall to keep the drugs out don’t make it with slats. Drugs will simply be pushed through the openings to someone waiting for them on the other side of the wall.

I thought the slats were requested by border patrol so they could see what was on the other side

Yeah, steel slats don’t sound like a good idea. Supposedly, border patrol likes the idea because they can see through to the other side, but then things can be passed between the slats.

If you are building a wall to keep the drugs out don’t make it with slats. Drugs will simply be pushed through the openings to someone waiting for them on the other side of the wall. Walls just buy time and channel opponents. They are not cure-alls, but are very useful.
If we prevented all drugs from coming across the Southern border, we would not a make a dent in the drug problem in the United States.
Demand is inelastic. Supply is elastic.
