Did columnist David Brooks put his New York Times gig at risk on Monday? Most people at liberal mainstream media outlets that have reported on the incident in Washington D.C. on Friday involving the Covington Catholic high school students, after having been made aware of the longer video and more facts about what actually happened, seem to be using the weasel type of position of saying something along the lines of "perhaps the incident is not quite like what it initially seemed but..."
However, Brooks did not go that route. Instead he gave a full, flat out defense of those students as we shall see.
As could be expected the left went berserk over Brooks' column, "How We Destroy Lives Today," not only where the usual loons reign such as at the Democrat Underground but in the comments that accompany his column as well. Here are some of the observations of the incident by Brooks that caused the left to go just plain nuts:

Back in Nebraska, Omaha tribal Chairman Elmer Blackbird did not return calls seeking comment about Phillips’ vigil.
Privately, another tribal leader said Phillips is regarded back in Nebraska as a well-intentioned brother struggling to cope with a troubled childhood. The leader said the Omaha Tribe generally avoids the type of activism Phillips prefers.

For those who don't know, the latter photo was taken in 1990, as the Mohawks blockaded the Mercier Bridge near Montreal. A SQ (Quebec Provincial Police) officer was killed and the Canadian Army was called in to separate the Mohawks from the people of Oka (and the SQ, who were gunning for revenge on the Mohawks).
The soldier was a 19 year who, like the young man in Washington, did not respond to the taunts and aggression of the 'Native' When I first saw the picture of the young man, it brought back memories of the Oka Crisis and Pvt. Cloutier.
Maybe he is 1/1024 Indian.
Brooks rarely gets it right. This time he stumbled on to right. The media was heinous. They want to hurt, kill, ruin a 16 year old boy. And its Ok because he is white. Like Jada Pinkett Smith saying she is triggered by Blond women. The reality is that its ok to say anything hateful against white people. No matter how hateful. But leer at a black person no matter how privileged that black person is, is racist.
Its the media. There is nothing we should do to support these hate mongers. The deference between the two political parties now, is that racism is practiced by the top of the democrat party and the bottom of the republican party.
