Print this article House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Saturday she will not take up President Trump’s offer to trade off $5.7 billion in wall funding for a three-year extension of a program providing legal status for "Dreamers," who illegally went to the U.S. as children.
Pelosi, D-Calif., issued a statement just before Trump’s announcement, calling the plan “a compilation of several previously rejected initiatives, each of which is unacceptable and in total, do not represent a good faith effort to restore certainty to people’s lives.”
Pelosi said the proposal does not achieve what Democrats have long sought for the "Dreamers," which is a pathway to citizenship or permanent legal status.
“It is unlikely that any one of these provisions alone would pass the House, and taken together, they are a non-starter.“
Pelosi rejected the wall and repeated Democratic offers to increase other border security at ports of entry and to boost technology along the border. Some overlapped with the president’s offer, such as money for additional immigration judges and bolstering security at the nation’s ports of entry, where most illegal drugs enter.

Pelosi hates all Dreamers.
She did this because a) she’s in a safe little district in California and she’ll never lose her seat in the 3-4 years she has left to live; and b) she believes Democrats are winning the shutdown battle because, as usual, she believes tainted liberal polling.

More immigration judges? Unacceptable. More agents? Unacceptable. $800M in humanitarian aid? Unacceptable. Three years of legal status? Unacceptable.

Also, I do not understand why anyone thinks the "shutdown" puts pressure on the congressional Democrats. Do they really care about federal workers beyond using them as propaganda fodder?

With DACA she could have played the DACA folks like a fiddle.
Second time he did it to see if they would accept his wall and not deal.
I think that he cancelled Pelosi’s flight at the last minute precisely to enrage her, and produce this exact outcome. Now the Democrats own the shutdown, despite the efforts of the media.

Uh, the federal workers are probably like 90% Democrat, and they’re going to care. Maybe “The Little Red Hen” won’t be safe for Democrats, either.
She seals her fate by rejecting it outright, without being willing to discuss it.
