‘It was getting ugly’Native American drummer speaks on the MAGA-hat wearing teens who surrounded him

The images in a series of videos that went viral on social media Saturday showed a tense scene near the Lincoln Memorial. In them, a Native American man steadily beats his drum at the tail end of Friday’s Indigenous Peoples March while singing a song of unity for indigenous people to “be strong” in the face of the ravages of colonialism that now include police brutality, poor access to health care and the ill effects of climate change on reservations. Surrounding him are a throng of young, mostly white teenage boys, several wearing Make America Great Again caps, with one standing about a foot from the drummer’s face wearing a relentless smirk.

This has been all over my Twitter feed. Maybe someone can point out to me what was wrong. I see some kids actually having fun with the drumming and the one kid just stands there with a smile kind of enjoying it even though the Native American was drumming in his face. Also, the drummer went up to the kids, not the other way around. I think this is just some make up outrage and I feel sorry for the poor kid who is getting cyberbullied about it.

I watched the young man in the grey jacket. He was being pushed back by the drummer, and he stopped and held his ground.I didn’t think he was smirking. The drummer was less than a foot from his face and the boy had a smile on his face to show no harm.
