In the days after President Trump fired James B. Comey as F.B.I. director, law enforcement officials became so concerned by the presidents behavior that they began investigating whether he had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests, according to former law enforcement officials and others familiar with the investigation.
The inquiry carried explosive implications. Counterintelligence investigators had to consider whether the presidents own actions constituted a possible threat to national security. Agents also sought to determine whether Mr. Trump was knowingly working for Russia or had unwittingly fallen under Moscows influence.
The investigation the F.B.I. opened into Mr. Trump also had a criminal aspect, which has long been publicly known: whether his firing of Mr. Comey constituted obstruction of justice.
Agents and senior F.B.I. officials had grown suspicious of Mr. Trumps ties to Russia during the 2016 campaign but held off on opening an investigation into him, the people said, in part because they were uncertain how to proceed with an inquiry of such sensitivity and magnitude. But the presidents activities before and after Mr. Comeys firing in May 2017, particularly two instances in which Mr. Trump tied the Comey dismissal to the Russia investigation, helped prompt the counterintelligence aspect of the inquiry, the people said.
The special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, took over the inquiry into Mr. Trump when he was appointed, days after F.B.I. officials opened it. That inquiry is part of Mr. Muellers broader examination of how Russian operatives interfered in the 2016 election and whether any Trump associates conspired with them. It is unclear whether Mr. Mueller is still pursuing the counterintelligence matter, and some former law enforcement officials outside the investigation have questioned whether agents overstepped in opening it.

I agree.
That’s a long version of the short version. But it’s true. :)
[So when did the FBI open an investigation into the sale of 20 percent of our uranium by the crooked Clintons?]
Oh THAT. That’s Bob Mueller-approved.
Were it 1953 The Clintons would be known as “The Rosenbergs”.
Trump is getting a lot of push back on the Syria pull out. Apparently, he is even rethinking the decision or planning to delay it. It is a real hot potato with Turkey, Russia, Iran, Iraq and Israel each having and perhaps even presenting a somewhat different set of interests and concerns for Trump to think about.
I know the big takeaway is supposed to be how crooked the FBI is.
But what I want to know is — what happened to the investigation? Since there was no leak of any incriminating information, I’m guessing this investigation found absolutely no evidence of Trump working with the Russians.
So, while the NYT wants obviously to paint a picture by suggesting that if an investigation exists, something bad was done, they may really be just once again proving that there is no collusion, that Trump is not working with Russia, and that the FBI was a corrupted organization under Comey/McCabe, as desired by the Obama administration.
So, what exactly is new about this breaking news? Are they just trying to remind the sheep over again that they hate our POTUS and to convince them its ok to mistrust him as well. I mean geez, if he is beyond our Trust because hes compromised and unstable, we definitely should not support the wall. They are pathetic liars.
LOLOL!!
Borrowing that :-)
My words.... Can someone rid me of this priest?
Nice to see my Tax dollars being spent on something so idiotic.
What a farce.
Maybe it's time to reopen the files on the Roosevelt and Truman administrations. Why did the US Government admonish Chiang Kai-shek not to take advantage of his apparent victory over Mao?
Under Nixon, the U.S. defeated the North Vietnamese and brought the troops home with honor. After Watergate, Congress cutoff defense funds for South Vietnam. That encouraged North Vietnam and the Soviet Union to resume the war. The reequipped NVA came in with more tanks than Patton had in WWII, and the South Vietnamese ran out of bullets. Were US Congressmen taking direction from the Soviet Union?
Late in this thread. I’m sure someone has already pointed out the open mic with Soetero and Medvedev but I’ll throw it out there. This whole thing reeks of the Clintoo’s and Soetero’s radicals.
