F.B.I. Opened Inquiry Into Whether Trump Was Secretly Working on Behalf of Russia
NY Times ^

Posted on 01/11/2019 5:34:14 PM PST by springwater13

In the days after President Trump fired James B. Comey as F.B.I. director, law enforcement officials became so concerned by the president’s behavior that they began investigating whether he had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests, according to former law enforcement officials and others familiar with the investigation.

The inquiry carried explosive implications. Counterintelligence investigators had to consider whether the president’s own actions constituted a possible threat to national security. Agents also sought to determine whether Mr. Trump was knowingly working for Russia or had unwittingly fallen under Moscow’s influence.

The investigation the F.B.I. opened into Mr. Trump also had a criminal aspect, which has long been publicly known: whether his firing of Mr. Comey constituted obstruction of justice.

Agents and senior F.B.I. officials had grown suspicious of Mr. Trump’s ties to Russia during the 2016 campaign but held off on opening an investigation into him, the people said, in part because they were uncertain how to proceed with an inquiry of such sensitivity and magnitude. But the president’s activities before and after Mr. Comey’s firing in May 2017, particularly two instances in which Mr. Trump tied the Comey dismissal to the Russia investigation, helped prompt the counterintelligence aspect of the inquiry, the people said.

The special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, took over the inquiry into Mr. Trump when he was appointed, days after F.B.I. officials opened it. That inquiry is part of Mr. Mueller’s broader examination of how Russian operatives interfered in the 2016 election and whether any Trump associates conspired with them. It is unclear whether Mr. Mueller is still pursuing the counterintelligence matter, and some former law enforcement officials outside the investigation have questioned whether agents overstepped in opening it.

All of these seditious traitor criminals at the fbi should be arrested. After fair trial and conviction they should be hanged from light posts on the wdc mall.

Cutting through the spin, the real takeaways from the article are that the FBI, on its own, initIated criminal and counterintelligence investigations of the President a) in reliance on the fake opposition research Steele Dossier; b) because they disagreed with the President’s political positions, which they believed were too pro-Russian; and c) because they feared the appointment of a new Director who might align politically with the President. This ought to scare and and appall every American.

Syria

Trump just left a strategic opening for Russia to go back into Syria.

We can debate the details, but that is a huge gain for Russia.

Though my question has been “IF Russia started to intervene in say, Mexico and we got them to stop, does that mean Russia is working for the US now?”

Trump lost a lot of cred by pulling out of Syria (well, he really doesn’t have the power to do it anyway). That is going to work against him at the impeachment trial.

Wall Street Journal

Can you narrow it down a tad?

Year? Month? Title? Author? Subject? Event? Link?

I'd really like to read the story.

I disagree. Trump lost ZERO cred by pulling out of Syria (except maybe with Obama and the EU). Our involvement in Syria was merely an extension of Libya , which was to kill the dictator and seize his assets and those Russian oil money laundering funds being held in EU banks. Both Libya and Syria were staged by CIA hired mercenaries. Nothing more than an effort to stop Russia from dominating non-USD oil sales

The most negative un-intended consequences of the Libya/ Syria invasion was the flood of refugees invading Europe and the failure of CIA mercenaries requiring the use of US troops to maintain presence after Putin drew the line.

Syria is a lose/lose situation pulling out is wise

It is past time to disband the FBI..and not hire a single one of them in whatever agency is formed to replace it.

Just fire everyone in the FBI/DOJ from secretaries/rookie Agents to Frau Mueller and let Homeland Security do its job without any bs from these seditionists.

By leaving Syria, we are allowing Russia to rebuild Assad and increase her ties with him. Full stop.

Now it can and probably should be argued that we had no business there in the first place, but the US went in to try to leverage a Russian ally out of the picture. Trump attempting to remove US influence is viewed as treason by many in the beltway who have been trying to remove a Russian ally for decades.

Remember, DC does not really care about what you and I believe. They are pretty insulated from the normal citizens. However the institutions do have a number on long term interests, destroying Russian interests being one of them. They already have a very negative view of Trump. The Syrian move just struck at one of the long term goals, and in their view is proof that Trump is a Russian agent. Couple that with the shutdown and he has little to no support in the government.

Good, bad, or ugly, when the company start fighting the boss, the boss wont be there long.

I would think that the “suitcases full of cash” claim has to be part of the Chinagate scandal, but I’ve never seen such a claim about Algore made anywhere.

So, they gave Gore suitcases full of cash? That was the claim.

Wouldn't surprise me. I just never heard it before.

IF what you are saying is true (and I’m skeptical), then the people inside the beltway are FAR greater enemies to this nation than Syria or the over-hyped Russians.
