LONSBERRY: Cuomo's Depopulation War On Upstate NY
NewsRadio WHAM 1180 - Rochester ^ | Dec 20, 2018 | Bob Lonsberry

Posted on 12/24/2018 1:19:45 PM PST by cutty

Since the start of the decade, a million people have moved out of New York.

For Andrew Cuomo, that’s not a problem, that’s a victory.

It has solidified his party’s hold on power, and it has reshaped the state and its culture in a fashion more congenial to his interests and agenda.

...

From the summer of 2017 to the summer of 2018, New York had a net loss in population of more than 48,000. Illinois, another Democrat state, was the second-most abandoned state, with 45,000 net reduction in population. Of the seven other states which had a net loss of population – all but one of them Democrat states – the total number of people moving out of them all combined was just under 34,000.

That means that, if you set aside Illinois, New York lost more residents than all the other losing states combined. If you don’t set aside Illinois, more than 40 percent of all the net population loss in America took place in New York.

Under Andrew Cuomo.

And that’s a win for him.

Because almost all of New York’s net population loss took place upstate, where values and party enrollment are in conflict with the governor and his progressive agenda.

...

Cuomo’s efforts to make New York – in his words – “the progressive capital of the nation” require a weakening and suppression of conservative, rural and Republican upstate.

So he declared war.

He allowed the state’s suffocating taxes, regulations and land-control rules to work like a spreading cancer against the financial interests of rural upstate counties. He harassed upstate culture with measures like Common Core and the Safe Act, and delayed and ultimately destroyed the potential for prosperity offered by fracking.

“Andrew and his brother are also orders of magnitude dumber than his father which is really saying something.”

You impertinent upstart! How dare you criticize His Arrogance Pope Mario I the Pious!! Report for flogging at once!!!

/s.

I drove through Upstate once. Small towns off interstate, reminded me of South Carolina where I live. Stopped for gas, met friendly folks. The gas station & general store sold shotguns. Same 19th century houses. Upstate NY is a different world from NYC but that’s true in many mostly rural states that are ruled by a single liberal megalopolis.

But until now I never heard of a governor who welcomed the depopulating of his own state. Andy Cuomo is Idi Amin crazy.

He actually told us (NY staters) a few years ago, that conservatives were not welcome in this State.

“Need to cleave the city off the state’s butt and make it the District of NYC.

Let the rest of the state try to recover.”

Actually, pick a state, and chances are there are one or more “large population centers” that need to be cleaved off that particular state's butt. Here in California, we have two hemorrhoids, San Francisco Bay Area and Lost Angeles (aka Mexico City del Norte). Next door in Nevada, they have only one, Las Vegas (which already houses more than half that state's population. Down in Texas, well they have at least four (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin), which will, sooner or later become the “controller” of that state.

Cuomo would just as soon destroy the state, just as never Trumpers would destroy the nation so as not to give their opponents a victory and consolidate their rule.

This would be a good time for upstaters to study Civil Disobedience. CD is not passive resistance, although it can include that and it definitely is not pacifism. Places like state office and tax buildings being gutted, burned and destroyed would be a feature of any serious campaign.

I’m also from the Cuse. So sad to see how the Left has exploited Upstate. All the production is gone.

The worst is yet to come. The Left only knows how to take. As things get worse, they will only take more.

Thank Reynolds v. Sims scotus decision. 1964.

One-man-one-vote stinks.

Albany thinks it’s gonna get the other 49’s taxpayers to pay for Albany’s NYC's pleasures.

Could happen—along with California... :-/

see the fracking ban was pushed because Cuomo and his lackeys weren't going to see enough profits for themselves...not the unions, not the govt workers, etc....

wait til some Cuomo relative buys up a bunch of land/mineral rights etc....then you'll see them endorse it, forgetting about the environment in a hurry...

Cuomo could not achieve his social engineering without federal government tax support. Stop funding Cuomas progressive socialism and it will fail.

Over twenty years ago I noticed that on a ride up to the Catskills; I was shocked at how many non-English speakers were in the Newburgh area. That long ago, the plan was in motion to prevent ghost towns from popping up in those Rust Belt towns/cities by importing a Third World underclass.

If you look at results “per capita”, for a longer time period, I think one can argue IL has been worse than NY.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/47/%25_Population_Chnge_by_state_from_2010_-_2017.png/1280px-%25_Population_Chnge_by_state_from_2010_-_2017.png

I would also observe though, that simple population loss is too simple a metric. Better would be to analyze WHO is leaving. For example, a state that had a net gain of 1% of it’s population in 10 years might appear to be more healthy than, say, IL. But, if that gain broke down to a gain of 2% low income residents minus 1% residents from the top 30th percentile of incomes, that state has a very serious economic problem developing.

Maryland put in an extra tax on millionaires a few years ago. It was published that the state took in less state income tax from people making a million or more the next year. One statistic that was never published was the actual number of millionaire filers they had in the two years. It seems that lots of people who already had second homes in Florida managed to live in Florida six months and one day, thereby paying zero income tax to Maryland. Rich people didn’t get that way by being stupid.

Eventually, he will run out of other people’s money. Crime will come, and jobs will leave.

Then he’ll be reelected, because that’s what happens in every dictatorship.
