Doug Schoen: Trump is to blame for government shutdown, but border security is important
Fox News ^ | December 23, 2018 1 hr ago | Doug Schoen

The President's strategy to shut down the government for the sake of a border wall only days before the Democrats assume majority control of the House is foolish and wrong.

This shutdown also comes just days after a contentious Oval Office meeting between President Trump, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and presumptive Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi

President Trump told the Democratic leaders he would take full responsibility if the government were to shut down – and now he has it.

Yet the president is attempting to blame the Democrats for this shutdown, even though he is the one who changed his mind at the last minute is refusing to budge from his demand for $5 billion for his border wall.

In a joint statement released by both Schumer and Pelosi, the Democratic leaders rightfully refused to back down from President Trump’s calls to shut down the government. They said that “President Trump threw a temper tantrum” and highlighted the fact that “President Trump has said more than 25times that he wanted a shutdown.”

And while the government shutdown is not a good thing, it does necessitate an important debate over the main issue at hand: border security.

I say this because unlike many other Democrats I do believe and indeed support strong border security utilizing modern technologies, which would in many places replace a wall.

Indeed, the president’s success and re-election prospects depend fully on his ability to drive compromise on his key issues like immigration, as well as health care. These are two key issues that were fundamental to the Democrats successfully winning back the House in November.

House and Senate Democrats were willing to compromise to find a deal that would keep the government open and secure our borders.

Mr. President, you should take their deal.

I don’t know if that’s true, but if so it would kind of bring my comment to life.

I would have to wonder if Doug likes to slip it on every once in a while.

I’m confused?? The House passes a bill, sends it to the Senate, and Chuck Schumer REFUSES to pass the bill or even debate it and send it to the President. How exactly is that the President’s fault??

“Doug Schoen: Trump is to blame for government shutdown, but border security is important”

In reality Chuck the Schmuck and his democRAT cohorts are to blame as they won’t part with an additional 3 plus billion to build the wall and secure the border. A few years back,Schmukie, Obama and Pelosi all advocated for the wall, but now because Trump wants it they’re against it. Trump has to stand tall and resist the lib MSM, and talk to the American people.

When using technology to detect incursions the people will have already entered the country and you will have to provide them due process and all that entails. Barriers will prevent them from entry.

Political party‎: ‎Democrat, says it all. I bet you do think it is wrong, not because you are concerned about anything other than what he does affects his chances for re-election. Fighting for what Americans elected him for helps, while your suggestion hurts, his re-election bid.

Yeah, we have never heard that from them at anytime in the past. Or wait that is what they always say but never deliver on. Get bent Doug.
