CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta said Friday that a source has told him that President Donald Trump is furious about Defense Secretary Jim Mattis’ resignation letter, tendered in the wake of the president’s decision to pull U.S. troops out of Syria.
But Trump is even more incensed about news coverage indicating he needs adult supervision, Acosta told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
“He hates that letter,” Acosta said, citing a source close to the White House who “advises the president occasionally.” But he added that Trump is even more upset by the “conventional wisdom” that Mattis and some others in his administration “were sort of the adults in the room ... to keep the president from going overboard, to be a check on his impulses.”
Trump is “irritated by this notion here in Washington that he is sometimes in need of adult daycare,” Acosta added.
Mattis’ letter of resignation discusses his differences with Trump over several issues, one of them being the importance of strong international alliances, according to Mattis.
“While the US remains the indispensable nation in the free world, we cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to those allies,” Mattis wrote.
Acosta spoke as members of the Senate scrambled to come to some sort of compromise on a spending bill that would satisfy the president’s demand for funding for a border wall so the government wouldn’t be shut down.

Suddenly the media is excited becuase Mattis “rebuked” the President. I seem to recall that not a single persion cast a single vote for James Mattis for anything. He chose to join the adminstration and serve at the pleasure of the President. Frankly, if Mattis disagrees so strongly with the President he should have stepped down sooner and I’m glad he’s gone. Nobody elected him to set policy or block the President from setting policy.
I was in line at the grocery store with my sister. She commented on one of the tabloid stories about the royal family. I said, we see these stories about famous people and I’d wager that ninety-nine percent of what they say is fabricated. Do you think the writers have access to these people or that these people’s friends would be so stupid as to talk to the press? This is true of every famous person and doubly so of politicians. The people who they do talk to wouldn’t be friends for long if they were that loose-lipped.
It wouldn’t take Trump long to figure out who had said what and they’d never be invited or consulted with again. As I get older I think less and less of what we see in the media is true.
cnn news is nothing more then obvious hit pieces that they call news. I have to believe more and more people are seeing that, aren’t they?
Anyone with an ounce of integrity wouldn't even talk to this lying dip wad Acosta.
