Trump administration officially bans bump stocks
CNN ^ | 12/18/2018 | Laura Jarrett

The Trump administration is officially banning bump-fire stocks, senior Justice Department officials told CNN Tuesday.

Under a new federal rule, those who possess the devices, commonly known as bump stocks, will get 90 days to turn them in from the date that the final rule is published in the federal register, which is likely Friday, the officials said.

Bump stocks gained national attention last year after a gunman in Las Vegas rigged his weapons with the devices to fire on concertgoers, killing 58 people. President Donald Trump vowed to outlaw the devices soon after the tragedy, and some lawmakers on Capitol Hill urged him to back a permanent legislative fix.

But opposition from lawmakers and the National Rifle Association ultimately made a regulatory change the only realistic path forward to accomplishing the President's goal.

My 5th grade history teacher taught me the “life, the universe, everything” part about the constitution, after months of intensive study (I was required to recite, from memory, the Preamble to the Constitution as example)

“The Constitution was not written for you. It was written for the government.” He continued “Many people will tell you what you can and can’t do and then refer you to the Constitution. The Constitution doesn’t dictate you. You are the boss. It dictates how the government handles itself”

So basically, the 2nd Amendment isn’t for us. Our right to defend ourselves seeing any method we see fit has never come under question in the founding the documents. That’s ridiculous. It tells the Congress that they must prepare, arm and train the Militia. It says that the Militia consists of the people and “Oh by the way” (Amendment) It is the job of the Congress to ensure that we are all armed.

The 1st Amendment isn’t for us, unless we are running a printing press. The 1st amendment was not written to protect the individual right to speak out against the government. The government never gives a sh!t about what people say. They care about what the media says (!). And yes, after we won our independence from Britain, the Continental Congress DID setup what is basically “Consultants” at printing presses to “Clarify” things about the government. After that behavior, it was built into the 1st amendment that no longer will the government have any jurisprudence or input over the printing press.

Hell, even King George didn’t care about what the people said about him. He cared about them paying taxes and producing goods.

every word of the Constitution is meant to tell the government what it could and could not do.. It doesn’t tell us what we can and cannot do. And hereby any politician or treacherous sh!tbag has utterly no business telling me about “My 2nd amendment right”.

No no no my friend, The government works for us. I haven’t forgotten that. What’s happened here is that over the course of about 100 years they have somehow managed to convince us of the opposite. So convinced are we that we will fight tooth and nail that our lives are dictated through law. People fight me on this point like Europeans fight me on how free they are. And for the same reason.

Since the communists took over in the 50s (And yes, that happened) of the education system we have been treated in two different ways that equal one result:

1) Schooling apart from parents was made mainstream, if not totally mandated through Truancy laws
2) From there, apart from our parents, they were allowed to teach anything they wanted.

It worked. Even my 5th grade teacher was shown the door for teaching “sideline curriculum” including CW from the viewpoint of the South (And a little lesson on banking and how the winners write history), the real way that slaves were brought into America (Why take from Africa when the creole islands were right there?) and other golden eye-popping lessons.

So again, the Constitution doesn’t tell us what to do. We are it’s author and we are the government’s bosses. It’s time to show them that and while I can’t tell you “how” to show them that, I can at least start to change some people’s minds and remind them of how they are supposed to think.

President Donald Trump works for us. That’s you and I.

I think what really chaps my @$$ is that we’re starting to lose deals.

Now that I see through several articles (Remember, the media is the enemy and generally just tries to rattle our cage to make us angry enough to snap and shoot someone) that we are (allegedly) giving like 15 billion dollars to Mexico..

I’m reminded of a few things. One, All that great talk that “We are not the world’s piggy bank” and second “We’re going to win. You’re going to get tired of winning.”

I loved what the first few years brought us. Now I think we’re starting to lose and I don’t want to lose. I risked it all putting my votes on Trump each time - I bravely stood against our far more powerful enemy and felt like I needed to ink my finger for the troubles I got voting for him - even from those in my own party!

I want to win. And when the left gets a win it’s a loss for us and we don’t need to lose. We are not weak and we are not in the wrong.

so **** this and **** that “Giving them a little win that means nothing” BS. It DOES mean something because our enemies don’t need “little wins” to keep them at bay. Nothing keeps them at bay. They only want more and more even when they promise they don’t.

These people want to see us all disarmed and the only person that wants to see you disarmed is a tyrant and a criminal. When they want you disarmed they are looking you in the eye and saying “I hope you die”.

Eff them. Not going to happen. Not on my watch.

Bush took this approach when he signed McCain-Feingold even though he knew it was unconstitutional. And, lo and behold, the Supreme Court let it stand.

I agree that that was one of them most cowardly things "W" did but, for the record, the SCOTUS knocked down the worst parts of McCain-Feingold.

If I can go buy an automatic weapon how in the hell can you say they’re banned?

Do you know what the "Hughes Amendment" is?

If you know, you're being deliberately dishonest. If you don't know, look it up.

Your categorical statement “Automatic weapons are not banned” is false due to incompleteness. A similar statement (which I have not made) "Automatic weapons are banned" is also false due to incompleteness.

I asked you a question. I'll ask it again.

Do you know what the Hughes Amendment is?

It's OK if you don't ... but until you do know, further discussion is pointless.

Grab your favorite search engine, enter the search term [Hughes Amendment] and learn what it specifies.

Ping me when you have done that.

Yup. Just like Sandy Hook. It was after watching that CNN video (I think it’s still up on Youtube) about the “devastated father” who “lost his child” who was laughing at the background before acting tearful when the cameras were on..

“..I don’t understand why Trump did this, it did jack to appease the gun control fanatics who worked hard to elect democrats....”

I don’t either. The ONLY thing he should have done, at this point is give them the middle finger.

But it is what it is.

Your argument that a bump stock is highly inaccurate, and by implication; totally indiscriminate in targeting is without merit and does not comport with my personal experience.

Under existing law, bump fire stock equipped rifles are NOT machine guns because each and every shot, utilizing a bump-fire stock in the slide fire mode requires a separate activation of the trigger. Period. There are NO modifications to the fire control group. Neither the disconnector, the hammer, the selector lever, lower receiver, or the trigger is altered in ANY way. An automatic sear is not added.

One thing that I really like about Free Republic is the amazing incisiveness and the vast quantity of thoughtful and informed analysis and information about a multiplicity of subjects. However, I am EXTREMELY disappointed about much of what has been said of the the bumpfire stock controversy. Much of it sounds has though it was promulgated by the ignorant gun grabbing left.

I am a 2 tour Vietnam infantry and armor combat veteran, and a member of the Illinois National guard for 26 years. I served in a NG Military police battalion has a platoon sergeant and an operations sergeant. I was a certified Illinois State Police Firearms and Defensive tactics instructor, and a member of Special Reaction and SWAT teams. I have fired hundreds of thousands of rounds through automatic weapons of all types, belt and magazine fed, tripod and shoulder mounted, ranging from .45 caliber M-3 sub machine guns up to M2A1 40 mm twin anti-aircraft guns mounted on an M-42 self propelled anti-aircraft gun.
I am retired and spend one day a month on the rifle range shooting my AR-15 rifles. When this slide fire device was first introduced, the low cost and novelty intrigued me and I purchased one. It was a bit awkward to use at first, but in one afternoon, after a bit of practice I was able to get 90% of any length burst on a man sized target at 70 yards, which is close to the normal engagement ranges for truly effective full auto fire from shoulder mounted assault rifles. It is not as useful has a true selective fire assault rifle since it requires two hands to employ, but it DOES have some measure of limited tactical utility for anyone who practices with it. I never really considered this item to be a true tactical instrument, but I did appreciate the ingenuity and thought that went into turning “bump fire’ into almost as accurate a technique has I could use with a true select fire assault rifle. It was even more accurate when firing from the prone position.

Experts who have decried the effectiveness of full auto fire from assault rifles and other shoulder fired weapons are largely correct. I was constantly yelling at my squad to use the “auto” location for the selector switch sparingly. Semi-auto fire is usually most desired and superior, and includes the advantages of duration of sustained fire to prevent barrel overheating and enhances ammo expenditure and accuracy. Auto fire from an assault rifle has the following tactical utility, in the final and close in (100 meters or less) stages of an assault, to gain initial fire superiority, to break contact, particularly has a counter ambush technique, when firing along final protective lines when a perimeter is in danger of being overrun, and to support by fire the maneuver tactics of another element. Leaders should be responsible to control the fire of their subordinates to maintain fire discipline, but in those roles that I have outlined, full auto fire is very useful indeed, even if it is simulated auto fire delivered from a bumpstock.

The battle has been joined. The anti-gun hysterics are in full cry. They will never be satisfied until they achieve near total firearm confiscation. The genie is out of the bottle. You cannot stop psychopaths employing bump fire methods unless you can repeal the laws of Newtonian physics. I realize that some sort of regulation will ensue in the wake of this horrific atrocity. But I don’t like it one damn bit. BTW, you can effectively bump fire with a thick rubber band wrapped around the magazine well and on the trigger on an AR-15, while firing thru the sights from the shoulder.
If they do enact this ban, then any so called “compromise” should include repealing the 1986 Hughes Act which caused the prices of full auto weapons to skyrocket by making it impossible to register newly manufactured NFA firearms. There is NO REASON for a legally transferable M-16 to cost over 50,000 dollars. You can be assured that any such owner will be thoroughly vetted by the background check that would be required to purchase one. But none of that matters to gun grabbers anyway.

Quoting the constitution proves you know nothing about the law.

You have to cite controlling Supreme Court opinions.

Tragically, I lost mine in a boating accident.

On a more serious note, this is a clear violation of due process and UN-CONSTITUTIONAL. Unfortunately it will take years to get through the courts before getting overturned.

He is officially a one term president.

That's more than likely a given with the full weight of the entire FedGov and the Deep State with the full cooperation of the liberal media whores after him since Day One. The entire goal of the Democraps has been to make the general public so sick of hearing about all these "investigations" that they'll simply vote PDJT out of office in 2020 to stop hearing about him, if nothing else.

They're dangerously close to attaining that goal.
