The Trump administration is officially banning bump-fire stocks, senior Justice Department officials told CNN Tuesday.
Under a new federal rule, those who possess the devices, commonly known as bump stocks, will get 90 days to turn them in from the date that the final rule is published in the federal register, which is likely Friday, the officials said.
Bump stocks gained national attention last year after a gunman in Las Vegas rigged his weapons with the devices to fire on concertgoers, killing 58 people. President Donald Trump vowed to outlaw the devices soon after the tragedy, and some lawmakers on Capitol Hill urged him to back a permanent legislative fix.
But opposition from lawmakers and the National Rifle Association ultimately made a regulatory change the only realistic path forward to accomplishing the President's goal.

Wow, someone answered my question.
“They are in some states.”
The original poster’s comment was that automatic firearms are banned. I made a definitive statement that they are not. The fact that some states ban them does not invalidate my statement that they are not banned.
“In any case, laws which have resulted in the market price of an M16 being $20,000 or more are a practical ban.”
No, they aren’t. You just have to have $20,000 to buy an M16. You can buy automatic weapons for less that $20,000, and others for more than $20,000.
The above are statements of fact. Not “practical” facts, just plain old facts.
No, I do not miss the point. I understand it completely.
I had never heard of or seen a bump stock before the Las Vegas shooting and have shot and hunted all my life. If they were so good to have I’m sure I would have heard about them.
Should someone be jailed for using marijuana?
Ban is one thing....enforcement entirely another.
The least violation? How about no violations at all and just stick to our Constitution, the bill of rights, and the rule of law how about that?
Bump stocks are not the hill to die on. The banning of full auto was such a hill.
A device that allows you to spew bullets indescriminately does not make you a patriot. The ability to accurately hit your target at distance does. I will vote for Trump next election with a clear heart because he is so much better than anyone else running.
I’m not the respondee, but I am a Candy Mushroom.
Candy mushrooms are usually pink in colour. They always find the light in a situation. They don’t really have any special powers they are just extremely happy.

Spend a little time on YouTube exploring new and amazing things you can buy right now, or any of the new and amazing tools or construction videos.
You will be amazed at what you don't know.
I don’t see your point.
I do spend time on YouTube and learn something every day.
Just having some fun.
I also was curious about the question, and found something lighthearted and inane. :-)
I know I should be at least a little surprised at how you are so willingly eager to express your obvious ignorance of firearm accessories. And you obviously spend little or no time at gun ranges or visiting local gun shows. These devices have been around for a lot longer than you are apparently aware of. Not hard to believe after looking at some of your posts here though. Sorry, only stating the obvious.
And if analogous laws were put in place which resulted in automobiles having a similar mark up in price making an entry level car cost $300,000, that wouldnt technically be a ban, either. But it would be one in all but name.
What if legislation was enacted that resulted in all firearms having similar increases in price? Would you shrug and say So what if a 1911 now costs $20,000? Its not as if theyve been banned, after all.?
Thank you, I appreciate that. Now I’ll take the quiz. lol
They don't understand "shall not be infringed" either.
You can blather and drivel and hurl insults all you like. At the end, you're red-faced and out of breath ... and your god-hero Trump the Magnificent has still violated the Constitution.
Deal with facts.
