Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich's chief political strategist has a message for President Donald Trump: "Be careful what you wish for."

Earlier, a Fox News interviewer asked the president about the possibility of Kasich or retiring Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., running against him in 2020, and Trump responded, "I hope so."

John Weaver, the Kasich strategist, responded to the remark with a warning.

"Be careful what you wish for," Weaver said in a message to CNBC.

It might be a good idea to begin thinking about a possible 3rd party candidate to run for the Dems. This would counter any Republican 3rd party candidate.

He would attract those who are inclined towards nevertrumpism, and a lot of those idiots who talk about how much they dislike Trump’s style. It would keep them “pure” to vote for a guy like Kasich, who is nominally Republican but not Trump. There are people like that out there, I see them on social media.

I assume those people didn’t vote for Trump in 2016, so if they vote for Kasich in 2020, would it make any difference? In this situation, aren’t those people really potential democrat voters?

Some of them might have voted for Trump in 2016, due to Hillary being the alternative. There were a lot of people who were never trumpers to very near the end, then came along. If they can vote for Kasich and keep their consciences clear, they might. Enough of them to make a difference. You are trying to use logic to explain why idiots like Kasich, Flake, Kristol, etc. think.
