They make beds in inns across the country. They pick oranges in Florida, strawberries in California and vegetables in Ohio. And they have built new subdivisions in Phoenix, Atlanta and Charlotte.
For years, policymakers have talked about shutting off the influx of undocumented workers. But the economy has grown to rely on them.
Ending illegal immigration, say many of those who have studied the issue, could mean that American workers would lose their jobs, companies would close and the economy would contract.

The issue is not that we CAN’T get them to leave.
The issue is that YOU are UNWILLING to do whatever is necessary to get them out.
A number of Mexicans, a number that don't seem to speak much English, doing renovations and such as 'contractors". The upstairs folks sometimes get loud at night and i was told by those who live up there that it is a suite with about 8 'contractors' living there. Complained to the office and they claim they can't do anything without recorded proof and that it's regular residents living up there....did another check and it is, in fact a number of male Mexicans in the place....
Only reason for them to stonewall complaints and lie about them living there is because something ain't kosher....thinking of giving ICE an anonymous call to see if anything shakes out.
Make the penalties for hiring illegals high enough, and do enough actual enforcement of the law, and companies will stop hiring illegals.
Hear that whooshing noise? That was a comment going over your head.
8 million? what a joke. Low by a factor of 4.
Too late. (see: Hillary Clinton, DOJ, FBI, IRS, and Democratic Party) but I repeat.
Sure you can. But the circumstance would necessitate the very type of government/environment that we fear, viz. a government that would inevitably turn on us. When the wrong people get (back) into power, that is.
Rich folks need their slaves. The people who scream loudest about the injustices of slavery should be the ones demanding they be sent home so that we, the USA, can rid the practice of slavery once and for all.
Those 8 million WORKING picking oranges and strawberries, and washing dishes in diners and mowing your lawn
I’ll guarantee you every one of those 8 million that are working are also drawing welfare...on their American born kids. You think you can support a family on that kind of pay?
When do you plan to start?
Total f---ing lie. All it would mean is wages for citizens would go up. So it would be slightly inflationary. It would also mean less welfare, educations, housing, medical and food stamps.
YES.WE.CAN.AND.SHOULD
Unfortunately, Trump has not done anything to upset this apple cart. He talks only of the wall and border security, for example, to keep criminal elements and terrorists out.
And where are we, how much political capital did he put in in his two years with a GOP House and Senate, in terms of beginning to get the number of illegals out who are here currently?
Yes, there would be short-term disruption and some of the domestic economy would shrink, but we would get our country back, particularly in terms of devolving voting patterns—and we would massively cut our government welfare expenditures, both now and in the future.
Unfortunately, again, Trump and co. seem uninterested in changing the situation regarding the tens of millions of illegals here currently (which would undoubtedly lead to amnesty and citizenship at an increased rate down the road) and even have allowed two years to pass with now increased illegal border passage, with what should have been stopped on day one.
You are the problem, a real POS.
But we don’t need them, either. And they tend to have anchor babies, etc.
Squish.
Exactly.
Also, the claim that Trump at times and some Freepers make that they’d do anything for economic gain for the country is not only morally corrupt, but destructive to the future they claim they are looking to protect.
You are correct. Your analysis makes sense. But people are taking your words as a challenge instead of a simple statement of fact.
Of course, as you so carefully noted, it does not matter if every single one is deported or not. What matters is getting a handle on the flood of foreign born people in our country, who are being used to destroy the country and culture we have had and wish to keep.
The NY Times is apparently totally unacquainted with recent advances in the field of robotics.
