Recently-unionized writers and editors at Slate have reportedly voted almost unanimously to strike over concerns about the company's diversity policies and a rule mandating that union fees be optional for Slate employees.
Bloomberg News reports that Slate employees voted 52 to 1 in favor of a strike and have begun considering when workers will walk out. A spokesman for the union told Bloomberg that the rules mandating optional union fees at the left-leaning blog seemed to be a "betrayal" of the site's values.
We just feel that its a total and absolute betrayal of Slates most fundamental values, Slate writer Mark Joseph Stern told Bloomberg.
Requests for comment to the Writers Guild of America - East and Slate were not immediately returned. Representatives for Slates's union released a chain of messages on Twitter Tuesday morning following the vote, further accusing Slate management of trying to "degrade the legitimacy" of Slate's union.
"Weve been bargaining our contract for 8 months. Were excited by a lot of what weve achieved at the table. But were still dismayed by managements position on certain key issues," the union tweeted.
"Most crucially, our unit continues to be outraged by managements inclusion of a right-to-work clause, a technique designed to degrade the legitimacy of our union," the account continued. "We love Slate. We want make the strongest, best Slate possible. But Slate is its workersits the writers, editors, producers, and staffers who make the magazine."
I would think Slate would be a workers paradise.
On the other hand the total lack of content would provide a big boost to the quality of the product.
I wish them nothing but failure. Oh and bankruptcy that would be nice too.
I always love a plate of schadenfreude in the morning.
Not enough poc and homosexuals?
I love it when communism jumps up and bites its supporters on the ass.
And this is a heapin’ helping, baby.
There are none so blind.
I always love a plate of schadenfreude in the morning.
Why would they need a union?
Because socialists are materialists, and therefore have no common human morality. They worship collectivism as their religion, and as such, believe all should work for free to promote it.
“Most crucially, our unit continues to be outraged by managements inclusion of a right-to-work clause . . .”
Leftists rely on compulsion and absence of any dissent or opposition - can’t have that in their setting unless you’ve got a union shop.
Slate is left leaning ? Any farther left and they would tip over.
The amount of whining liberal butthurt directed toward that one person must be unimaginable.
Brilliant strategy! Shut down the flow of bilge spewing from Slate and bring America to it’s knees.
Feel good story of the month.

My guess is that the vote was really 53 to 0, but the Russians managed to hack one ballot.
Management forcing its workers to pay optional union dues. What’s wrong with this picture?
Workers Revolt in Worker’s Paradise?
