Trump shrugs off future debt crisis: ‘I won’t be here’

President Trump is dismissing the importance of paying down the national debt, saying he won’t be in office to take blame for the nation's fiscal crisis when it becomes even more unsustainable, according to a report Wednesday.

The national debt sits at $21 trillion and counting. As a candidate, when the national debt was $19 trillion, Trump promised to erase the entire debt “over a period of eight years.”

Senior administration officials showed Trump charts and graphics in early 2017 that illustrated a “hockey stick” spike in the debt in the coming years. Trump said the data showed the national debt would only become untenable after he left office, the Daily Beast reported.

“Yeah, but I won’t be here,” Trump said.

People close to the president told the news outlet that the national debt never actually bothered Trump, despite his public comments about it.

“I never once heard him talk about the debt,” one former White House official said.

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said it’s also the responsibility of Congress to cut back on spending.

“While the president has and will continue to do everything in his power to rein in Washington’s out-of-control spending, the Constitution gives Congress the power of the purse, and it’s time for them to work with this president to reduce the debt,” he said.

Big Gubamint is a racket,, and you’re the ball.

Politicians pay lip service and get re-elected time and time again unchallenged and the debt grows and grows.. The ERF spins on.. and so do the media, as addicted to not doing their jobs as ever.

Theoria you are economically retarded. You can't even understand basic booking keeping and that there are two sides of a ledger sheet, income and expenditure. You get 'em confused all the time. So please stay out of the conversation.

PS: You can grow out of debt, actually it is the only way out.

The United States would save billions of dollars every year if we stopped taking in illegals and MOST of the legal ‘immigrants’.

Some of us baby boomers have already started doing our part to reduce the future debt by dying off.

I won’t take Freepers and Republicans seriously about this subject until they all call for a 20% import tariff that will raise $500B/year and promote US workers salaries and prosperity.

Yes, on 20 years the debt will start to level off and reverse. The problem is the USA is replacing Euro Americans with 100+ average IQ with third worlders that have a < 90 IQ. I don’t see how it will work out well.

Oh, look its you again. We've had your 'stuff' for years. Nothing but debt. No cuts. We will have cuts. They are coming, because 'you' can't grow out of this misery without making cuts. 21 trillion and still rising. Interest rates will head up. All of your time running around boasting about the economy hasn't changed the basics of spending more than we are taking in.

Part of the only reason 'we' have the economy of today is because .gov has compensated for the lack of growth by spending. I just hope you have taken care of your finances. Good luck to ya.

Just don't expect me to pay for your SS, medicare, and other goodies.

“Yeah, but I won’t be here,” the president bluntly said, according to a “SOURCE” who was in the room when Trump made this comment during discussions on the debt.

Trump submitted a cut down budget eliminating or reducing funding for useless agencies. Speaker Ryan took one look at the budget, shrugged, and threw it in the trash. Then Congress passed another deficit-ridden budget.

Agreed, but with a caveat: If we aggressively grow industry and business by reducing taxes and improving the business environment by reducing bureaucratic overhead (as Trump has done) that will make it possible.

But it won’t be possible if we don’t reduce spending.

I don’t believe we have or will have a revenue problem if we let the industrial environment continue to improve, but if we don’t reduce spending, it won’t work. (We don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem)

You are dangerous. You want to increases income taxes which will slow the economy, not reduce the debt and make me poorer. We have to grow, Grow, GROW!!!

As far spending goes just hold it at current levels. Inflation and growth will take care of the debt. I think there would be political will to hold spending at 2018 levels.

If you want to decrease the debt put the burden on consumers with an import tariff and not on producers by raising income tax rates. That is the way Republicans operated until the globalist like Bush hijacked the party after WWII.

No, the trick is to get all sides to agree on holding spending at 2018 levels for 20 years or more. There is no political will to cut spending but who could be against spending the same amount every year?

No. That is only part of it, the real problem is spending. Freeze federal hiring permanently. what happened to repealing all those agencies that Kelley Anne Conway wanted us to enumerate? The Legal Services Corporation, NPR, PBS, Planned Parenthood,” and the rest of every interminable useless agency? Stop baseline budgeting—if you do not not know what that is, look it up— the major reason for increased budgets every year, automatically. Stop this crap. This is planned, the Unknown behemoth known as the federal government rolls on, steamrolling anyone in its wake.
