The professor thinks global warming is pseudoscience and a religion. This speech is hilarious and provides some great ammunition in case one ever has an argument with a global warming believer.
Here's an example of the Professor's humor...
[According to a global warming study] Body size shrinks because of global warming. He must have included Al Gore in his observations. The shrinking victims, according to the study, included cotton, corn, strawberries, bay scallops, shrimp, crayfish, carp, Atlantic salmon, herring, frogs, toads, iguanas, hooded robins, red-billed gulls, California squirrels, lynx, and wood rats.
Unfortunately, this does not apply to people.
My observation is that people get bigger because of global warming.
Consider it the best of the best.
He did make a (common) error when he stated the Catholic Church declared the world was flat. The professor should probably bone up on the history of cosmology.
.
US Screwel teechurs thought up the Flat Earth theory in the mid 1930s.
They didn’t believe it, but they declared out of whole cloth the idea that others did.
Is he?!
Good!
Always like him.

“Studies” are the favored method of lying.

When will we correctly identify who is informing us on matters?
Science or Entertainment, that is the question!

In Inventing the Flat Earth (1991) Jeffrey Burton Russell argues that 19th century anti-Christians invented and spread the falsehood that educated people in the Middle Ages believed that the earth was flat. As one writer summarizes, “Russell also examined a large selection of textbooks and found those written before 1870 usually included the correct account, but most textbooks written after 1880 uncritically repeated the erroneous claims in Washington Irving, John William Draper and Andrew Dickson White. Russell concludes that Irving, Draper and White were the main writers responsible for introducing the erroneous flat-earth myth that is still with us today.”
Russell suggests that the flat-earth error was able to take such deep hold on the modern imagination because of prejudice and presentism. He specifically mentions “the Protestant prejudice against the Middle Ages for Being Catholic ... the Rationalist prejudice against Judeo-Christianity as a whole”, and “the assumption of the superiority of ‘our’ views to those of older cultures”
Russell is currently Professor Emeritus of History at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has also taught History and Religious Studies at Berkeley, Riverside, Harvard, New Mexico, and Notre Dame.
I thought that the comparison between the two was telling.
Bill Nye is truly a maniacal engineer.
I’ve been saying this for decades! Do I get a Nobel?!
So few people understand real science: (1) come up with a hypothesis; (2) come up with and run experiments that can prove OR disprove (falsifiability) the hypothesis; and (3) repeat. A connection between human activity, global warming, climate change, etc., whatever theyre call it this week, cannot be proven or disproven. Ergo, it is not science. This is a very short summary. The Wikipedia article isnt bad: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_method
.
The flat Earth theory came long before 1991!
It was first taught in 1933
It was foolishly aimed at “Christians” because its invetors never read the Bible, which is rich with references to the curve of the Earth.
Yes, telling comparison, for sure.
bump for reference
“...who study global warming start out with a premise and then look for evidence to prove the premise is true.”
You have just described the theory that the Mann, Hansen, and Jones built their Global Warming Climate Model on: enter the result and the model generates data to support it.
I’ve been pondering this a bit, and reached the conclusion that plans should be formulated to build protected underground agriculture facilities.
Right now in the Netherlands they are building “high rise” facilities of this type, because they are so limited in farmland. What we should develop are the equivalent of underground high rises for plant crops and farm animals.
With artificial heat and lighting, food production would be year around, not limited to seasons.
Except for extreme environments, however, people will still live on the surface, using ultra efficient insulators like Aerogel panels for buildings, to maximize energy efficiency.
It’s a good video worth watching to those interested. He asks an important question - before talking about global warming being good or bad, shouldn’t we know what the optimal temperature needs to be?
After that he begins to dissect many of the points GW theorists propose, disputing even the very premise that the earth has warmed through industrialization and that CO2 isn’t a cause of warming at all.
.
Let’s try to get beyond your limitations.
All Bible believers are aware that the Bible teaches a spherical Earth.
Many that call themselves ‘christians’ hyave never actually read the Bible, beyond a few sound-bite verses.
Believers they are not.
