MOSCOW The head of Russias Roscosmos space agency has said that a proposed Russian mission to the moon will be tasked with verifying that the American moon landings were real.
We have set this objective to fly and verify whether theyve been there or not, said Dmitry Rogozin in a video posted Saturday on Twitter.
Rogozin was responding to a question about whether or not NASA actually landed on the moon nearly 50 years ago. He appeared to be joking, as he smirked and shrugged while answering. But conspiracies surrounding NASAs moon missions are common in Russia.
The Soviet Union abandoned its lunar program in the mid-1970s after four experimental moon rockets exploded.
In 2015, a former spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee called for an investigation into NASA moon landings.

They actually have already confirmed it. A few days before the launch they sent up an unmanned satellite to monitor the landing.
Excellent. Spend 10 or 20 billion rubles on this.
L
Is the outcome of this investigation pre-determined?
In the old Cold War days, it would have been (it was a hoax, regardless of any evidence found).
Are we back there again?
Those Ruskie rubes don’t have a lot of spare rubles to spend on such nonsense, but let them, lol.
Ivan has never gotten over the fact that their technology has never been good enough to make the levels of quality needed to make predictable, MANNED moon landings. In the late sixties, I was one of the MANY engineers and scientists that made APOLLO happen. It was very real. All of it. And we did not have to lie about any of it or keep it hidden because of probable failures that Ivan has always lived with.
Sour grapes, Ivan.
People are doing way too many recreational drugs these days. The lunar recon orbiter already did this many, many moons ago. If Americans didn’t go to the moon, somebody did to make it look like we had been there. Geez. Idiots.
It’s been verified repeatedly.
Devices were left on the moon that are detectable by laser scatter, or something like that. I believe they are to precisely measure the distance from the Earth to the moon.
Anyone with the right equipment can check at any time.
No before anyone says it, no, NASA isn’t the one with the right equipment.
This is a good endeavor. We really never did go to the moon.
The cat was let out of the bag a few years ago, when someone in a position of power leaked out that the American flag was planted not on the Moon, but on Mars. She was not supposed to tell us the truth... but she did.
—should be able to check out the flattness of the Erf with the same equipment——who knows what they may find?
If they watched “The Big Bang Theory” they’d know about the reflectors we placed on the moon under the Apollo program....it’s how we know the moon is inching away from the earth..
It is if Mueller Ivanovich is running it.
Yeah, but why should we believe them? Maybe they “verify” we landed just so that they can claim they did as well! And who is going to verify that they made it? NASA? No one believes them, they are a part of the conspiracy!
(I really hope I don’t need to tag this ....)
Once we landed on the Moon, the Soviets also used radio triangulation to confirm that our transmissions (”That’s one small step for Man”) originated from the Lunar surface, as well.
The Apollo missions also left behind laser reflectors that we still use today to precisely measure the distance of the Earth to the Moon (varies slightly).
Some universities ping those laser reflectors today, as well.

...
That’s all we need to know.
Space archeology will become a thing.
Moon landing sites will be the first sites. Mars landed next. Elon’s Roadster will be an elusive popular goal. Voyager 1 will be very important but hard.
It’s amazing how many people don’t read the article.
