~ Happy Thanksgiving 2018!! ~
GOD BLESS AND WATCH OVER THEM, WHEREVER THEY SERVE
Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies' military and family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving Proclamation
Washington, D.C. October 3, 1863
By the President of the United States of America.
The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consiousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.
No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People.
I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.
Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the Unites States the Eighty-eighth.
By the President: Abraham Lincoln
Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and veterans and their families, and is family friendly.

We all do extol Thee, Thou leader in battle,
and pray that Thou still our defender wilt be.
Let Thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy name be ever praised, O Lord make us free.

Thanks, Mooch, and Happy Thanksgiving to you. Didn't know anything about
the quake til I heard the news as I was driving home from work. Maybe too busy. LOL! Is it going to be too windy tomorrow for the balloons in the Macy's parade?

Yeah....good idea to get that done on a quiet night and not have any wildfires start up around there!
The kitties have enjoyed the sunshine, but this morning when it was still cloudy and a bit nippy, Grey was curled up in the barrel I’ve fixed with a pillow and a towel...just in case the shed and the waterproofed carrier are full. :) They do all right. LOL!
I did as little as I could get away with. Tomorrow will be a repeat. Thank goodness Peaches went out a bit ago and I got the clean sheets on the bed without “help”.

I’m always careful when burning trash. No wildfires started here. :-) It’s going to be hard hauling everything out to the burn pile. It’s cold. BRRRRRR Once the fire’s going, it’ll feel good though.
Poor Grey. Too bad she didn’t have a snuggle buddy this morning to help her stay warmer.
I got pretty “industrious” this afternoon. I can only handle being lazy for a short time, then need to do something. I get bored easily. LOL!
Tomorrow won’t be too busy since I’m not whipping up a huge meal. It’ll be a low-key day overall.
Yay for Peaches going out. Now to hope he decides to stay out so you can get a good night’s sleep. :-)

I didn’t feel sorry for Grey. She probably wanted to be by herself on that soft pillow bed. Not having to share. She was pretty content. And it wasn’t that cold anyway. :)
Low key days are good. If you do just enough to get moving for a bit but not feeling like you HAVE to do this or that. I hope the meal is good. I wouldn’t mind some of that ham. Sounds scrumptious. is it pre-cooked?

Yeah, cats do like some alone time and it sounds like she had a nice snug spot for hers.
There’s always stuff to do around here. All these kittehs make sure of that! LOL! But since it will be so nice outside, I might rustle up enough some energy to gather up more small tree debris around the place. Still haven’t gotten it all up from the tornado.
Yes, the ham is pre-cooked. I’ll just whip up a broccoli casserole that we like and boil some of that delicious Golden Incredible corn I blanched and froze this summer. Tasty, it’ll fill us up, and little work involved. Not a traditional Thanksgiving meal but we aren’t traditional. LOL

Love the turkey hats some of the soldiers were wearing. LOL! Nice to see them able to have a little fun while so far from home at Thanksgiving.

Meh, traditional! Hubby sometimes has liver and onions. LOL! The cafeteria makes really good ones...but I know that just made you want to barf. :) We have steaks for Christmas. I only eat turkey for Thanksgiving.
The broccoli casserole sounds yummy. Actually the whole meal does. Enjoy!
Do your kitties get a special treat on holidays? Mine don’t. Same ol’ Purina Cat Chow. Poor underprivileged things.
