Were living in an age of unprecedented technology. Its not the future that our elders promised to us when we were kids I mean, where are the flying cars? but technology has made our lives exponentially easier.
Take the smartphone for example. What used to take a computer, a Walkman, an atlas, and more now fits in the palm of your hand. In fact, the advent of the smartphone has rendered obsolete some things that we used for years.
Heres a list of ten things that our smartphones have replaced. Its not an exhaustive list by any means, but I think youll get an idea of what revolutionary technology our phones have become. Enjoy!
10. Landlines and payphones
9. Flashlights

Or own a digital camera.
Or have land phone lines in the house.

Yeah those too.
I won’t give up my landline. Best in emergencies. Have plenty of flashlights. I use my address book for Christmas card lists
We don’t need answering machines anymore.
Porn magazines and movies
... or so I’m told.
what I hope doesn't go away completely are official mail drop boxes.....seeing fewer and fewer....
The same is said about firearms.
Thank you, FRiend. I just bought the app....It doesn't flash 'running' like the original 12C did when it calculates the IRR but otherwise it's AWESOME, TOTALLY AWESOME!!
It is also beautiful...like a piece of good modern art.
Flashlights, my ass!
I wonder if this list could be turned into a predictive test? Could you predict a persons politics and likelihood to vote for a particular candidate based on how many of these 10 items the voter uses and which ones?
Kept losing pocket calculators so I now have an HP-85 in my shop. Desktop computer and instrument controller.
Maglites are unbeatable. Either for light or for beatings.
I am far far from 80 but have & use all those things in my house. Not everything digital is good and I have purposely not made those changes. Life is good!
TMI!
Rural America, “Fly over country” composes most of the land mass of the country and has the least coverage.
Good manners
Real compassion
Useful, practical knowledge
I had a 28S.
THe RPN is hard to be for the simple logic of it. Once you got used to using it, it is hard to go back.
12, 3, +, 15.
What battery do you mean?
In the old days we had corded phones, that didnt need any power or batteries. I always kept a corded phone for that reason. Now, that phone will go out along with a power failure, and the best they give us is a battery backup, which isnt very convenient, BTW, to our layout/furniture situation.
Im not talking about our remote phones, just those that did not use batteries.
Im sure it will work out fine, but the point is weve lost true redundancy.
E.g., we have a back-up for our sump pump. No, it is NOT battery electric, it is pressure-based purely mechanics. IOW, it will work no matter how bad the situation.
Yes, nice, but disgusting how even textbooks are written specifically with TI-83/4 as their centerpiece. Talk about product placement and crony capitalism! Students are FORCED to buy these things even for remedial math. Absurd.
