During the November 4 airing of CBS News’s 60 Minutes, they inaccurately described the AR-15 as mass shooters’ “weapon of choice.”
The claim that the AR-15 is the “weapon of choice” is widely reported and it is Fake New 101. In fact, to make the claim even nominally palatable, 60 Minutes host Scott Pelley only referenced five mass shooting events, all of which happened in the last six years and all which involved an AR-15 or an AR-15 and various handguns.
Those five shootings were the Tree of Life Synagogue (October 27, 2018), the church in Sutherland Springs, Texas (November 5, 2017), the Las Vegas concert (October 1, 2017), the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida (February 14, 2018), and the Sandy Hook Elementary School attack (December 14, 2012).

I went out shooting this weekend. Me and my friend were shooting 308. We struck up an conversation with another shooter who had a long range rifle chambered in 338 Lapua and he let us shoot a magazine out of it. I finished up the day by shooting a couple of mags from my AR-15 and after shooting those other rifles it felt like shooting a BB gun.
The main reason the shooters use the AR-15 is that they know it will gain them more notariety due to the fact that the media will go nuts.

It’s not black and scary so for sure it is not a lethal assault weapon.
Their “journalists” probably asked the boss
“What do you call the bigger,longer kind of guns that they hold out in front of them and that make a lot of noise and the bullets come out of the end faster, like pow,pow,pow?”
Boss: “I don’t know. I’ll ask around. Meanwhile don’t forget to choose your hotel for the night of your Emmy Award ceremony for best newscast.”

Each and every day we are provided trainloads of proof that journalists are around 51 cards short of a full deck.

News people think those hunters are just meanies and don’t want to know about them or what they hold to shoot with.
That’s why they had safe spaces in journalism school.
They also referred to “AR-15 bullets.”
As if there’s a specific bullet for that weapon platform.
No mention of all the anti psychotic meds the shooters were on or how it effected them.
Good points in the article. Cherry picking of the facts by CBS as always. Compare apples to apples and rifles to rifles for one thing. I thought there were actually complaints about the M-16 round in Vietnam because it was not nearly as effective as the AK’s used by the NVA. It had more accuracy and range, but needed to tumble to cause damage.
