Lest we forget……. The March for Justice October 31, 1998
Recollections of A FRee Republic Poster | October 31, 2018 | bert

Posted on 10/31/2018 6:32:09 AM PDT by bert

For weeks ahead of the date, folks like me had to decide……. Do I really believe all this stuff we discuss daily on Free Republic? Should I scrounge up some money and set aside the time to travel to Washington DC to be a part of what is being called The March For Justice? The Answer is Yes!

There was to be a march with State flags. I bought a Tennessee state flag to wave in the gathering. To my astonishment, as I waved the flag, several Tennesseans in the crowd rallied to the flag and zap…..we had a Tennessee delegation present on the field.

There were lots of great speeches and general feeling of well being as we celebrated on the Mall in the literal shadow of the Washington Monument. What we said in our posts lacked an identity, but that day, we came together with more or less one very proud voice. The crowd faced the White House and in that one very loud voice shouted Impeach, Impeach, Impeach.

The night before, across from the infamous Water Gate complex, we took over the hotel. There were small groups and knots of people in every nook and cranny, on the stairs, in the conference rooms we just appropriated by strength of numbers. There were whoops of glee and recognition as we met and put a face to someone we actually knew well but had never seen. There was awe as Matt Drudge showed up and worked the crowd. A woman named Goldberg showed up also. I didn’t know her but she made a big impact. She called us Freepers. The name stuck to this day. There were several selling stuff to finance their trip. There was a table selling authentic March For Justice stuff to finance proceedings. My poster purchased at that table still hangs in my office. That gathering twenty years ago on the evening before Halloween changed my life. I knew that I must pay attention to try to be a better, active citizen.

It was apparent that rather than walk the long distance from the Parking lot to suicide, the body had been driven up a weed clogged road and carried a hundred yards or less and deposited in the park. Also of note, as we traversed through Fort Marcy Park, we noticed yellow post it notes stuck here and there. They had been left by other FReepers who made the visit around midnight the night before. I still have all those sticky notes.

That was twenty years ago today……… what a fantastic day it was

I was a Lurker then, not yet a FReeper.

Went to the March, met a huge group of like-minded Conservatives, who were in WDC on their own nickle, and the rest is history!

Became a FReeper 2 days later - I have no idea why I waited so long!

And, the Washington, DC Chapter of FRee Republic became my family until I left DC in Feb 2004 to look after my late mother here in Jacksonville.

Great people! Great times! Great FReeps!

Kristinn, you should write a book about that era!

Thanks for the memories!

And the URL for that tape! I started watching it, and the first thing I noticed was that Clinton’s a Liar was a lot younger then!

Taxman Bravo Zulu for a great find!

“Afterwards Freepers left the march and rally areas clean.”

I attended many FReeps in the DC area between the March for Justice and Feb 2004 when I had to move to Jacksonville, and I will tell you that we FReepers ALWAYS left the rally areas cleaner than we found them.

We also thanked the Park Police and the WDC Police for being there for us!

FRicking LIEberals ALWAYS trashed their locations - made NO effort to clean up after themselves!

I could go on a super-long anti-LIEberal rant, but won’t. Gotta keep the good vibrations going and upbeat!

Anywhere FReepers gather, in person, on line, at a Rally, whatever, does not matter: We are FREEPING!

Exactly.

One FReeper FReeping is a FReep.

Very cool! Started out with Gary Aldrich, who wrote “Unlimited Access”...a book that not only sounds completely factual in tone with all we know now about the Clintons, but probably portrays them in a more accurate light than any book about them since written.

Yes—I’m a girl, or at least female!!

That March for Justice was a day to remember. I had been a FReeper for only a few months, and being there with all of you was like
being with strangers who were all my friends! I had NJ flag and was proud to carry it with all of you from all over the country. Made many friends!!

And yes, I remember when cleaning the area after the march ended, the police were amazed at what we were doing. They said the place was never so clean. But — that is what we were like.

It was the start of many trips to DC to protest Clinton with so many of you. Names that have remained familiar over the years. I think we made a mark and caught the attention of many big names. At one reception we were at, I was talking with Gary Aldrich and he said what we were doing was new to conservatives. And he was very pleased.

Thank you JimRob for Free Republic!

And while I am here, how about a donation to help JimRob end the FReepathon? What would we do without FRee Republic..

Old age and senility have caught up with me, fer shure, fer shure!

So, let me get this straight: you are a Delaware GUY at Exit 82 and she is a NYJ GAL at exit 148?

I got it!

Thanks, and sorry for the confusion! It was, after all, a long time ago!

LOL!

Yeah, 20 years ago when I joined FR I lived off Exit 82 of the Garden State Parkway in NJ.

Moved to southern, conservative DE 12 years ago.
