The Pentagon said Monday it is sending 5,200 troops to the Southwest border in an extraordinary military operation ordered up just a week before midterm elections in which President Donald Trump has put a sharp focus on Central American migrants moving north in slow-moving caravans that are still hundreds of miles from the U.S.
The number of troops being deployed is more than double the 2,000 who are in Syria fighting the Islamic State group.
Trump, eager to keep voters focused on illegal immigration in the lead-up to the elections, stepped up his dire warnings about the caravans, tweeting, “This is an invasion of our Country and our Military is waiting for you!”
But any migrants who complete the long trek to the southern U.S. border already face major hurdles — both physical and bureaucratic — to being allowed into the United States.
In an interview Monday, Trump said the U.S. would build “tent cities” for asylum seekers. […]
The Pentagon’s “Operation Faithful Patriot” was described by the commander of U.S. Northern Command as an effort to help Customs and Border Protection “harden the southern border” by stiffening defenses at and near legal entry points. Advanced helicopters will allow border protection agents to swoop down on migrants trying to cross illegally, said Air Force Gen. Terrence O’Shaughnessy.

Last I checked we weren’t at war with Syria and are providing support for whatever group de jour is fighting against ISIS.

Could The Donald spare a couple thousand of our best troops to “clean out the swamp that is DC, including Congress”?
I’d love to see a Teddy Roosevelt/Rough Rider tank charge up Capital Hill and watch the Democrat/Red Rats flee to the nearest bar on Pennsylvania Avenue or down into the nearby subways with the rest of the rats.
What a film that would make. Donald, on a horse (or tank), sword in hand, leading the charge. Pelosi, Schumer, Wasserman-Schulz, Schiff, Durbin, Fauxchohantas, etc. all crapping in their undies as they flee out the back door of the Capital Building.

The President is going to have to invoke his powers under statute law and the Constitution to get a handle on this thing.
Would the simplest solution be to declare martial law along the border? Those who cross have no entitlement to due process and are subject to immediate deportation.
I have a feeling that the President will issue an executive order that combines a raft of policies and orders to federal agencies, that puts serious teeth into our enforcement of immigration laws.
Don't know that martial law will need to be invoked, but establishing such in a designated buffer zone might actually be advisable, so as to allow our military to actually repel invaders, rather than simply be a support force for the Border Patrol.
I think that setting up tent cities and HOLDING everyone there is the better way to go it will SHOW everyone that there will be NO catch and release!!! It should STOP the further caravans it just REALLY PISSES ME OFF that WE have to spend the money to get these invaders back home!!! The press will be ALL OVER these tent cities like VULCHERS but it won’t matter to the American public!!! Most ALL of our states have become not recognizable any longer and the American people are FED UP, this is a LOSING issue for the MSM and Dems which are one in the same!!! Most Americans will NOT be open about their feelings concerning immigration for fear of being called a racist Trump WON on immigration we ALL know this!!!

Being that over 80% of this invading hoard are young healthy males, how about we work with the Mexican government to set up training boot camps in the remote Mexican desert and create and train these guys into a fighting force and send them home to overthrow their corrupt governments? They can take on the cartels too. They seem to be very proud of their home country flags. Let’s test their patriotism and find out just how real it is.
