Breaking: @joyent, Gabs new hosting provider, has just pulled our hosting service. They have given us until 9am on Monday to find a solution. Gab will likely be down for weeks because of this. Working on solutions. We will never give up on defending free speech for all people.

FR has its own servers and relies entirely on contributions from its members and other folks.
Geeky ol’ Microsoft was hosting Gab. Just more corporate liberal fascism. All they had to do was to get Gab to shut down Bowers’ (the synagogue shooter) account. Gab would have complied; they don’t need that kind of heat.
“The only way you can redeem yourself on FR after *that* one, is if the site is hotsheepandgoats.afghanistan.com “
No, somebody else got that one.
We could always do Samizdat (underground press) through the US mail. Unlike the corporate scum, the postal service must, must, MUST deliver our stuff.
I figure the whole Bowers mess (he had an account on Gab) simply gave Leftoids at Microsoft the excuse to do what they wanted to do with the site.
At what point can an entity be denied use of the optical fiber lines? If the Democrats regain control of the government, how about the airwaves (wi-fi)?
You still have to have friendly politicians in control of the FCC.
Every now and again you pop up with some comment that smacks of Deep State.
GAB.ai is/was an alternative to liberal and Deep State shadowbanning or outright banning on Facebook and Twitter.
That is why they are of value.
I am so glad that we got rid of net neutrality. This new found (free market) power the communications and ISP companies were given to selectively discriminate as they like is just fantastic isn’t it?
I hope I’m not the only one who saw this coming.
“careful what you ask for”.
Well... Here it is, and it’s just the beginning.
Yes, but it takes money.
But there is a model, already, on how the Left bans free speech.... or, in these cases, greatly minimizes it.
The physical news press, and the television networks. They came in, established themselves, got the critical mass of money required to sustain and dominate newsheets and television stations, then offered one viewpoint: That of the left.
Luckily, conservatives happened across a more important medium: Radio. It is more important because people stuck in cars had only one viable option to listen to, which was radio. It is cheaper to run, and Federal regulations made it a Constitutional mess to shut down.
Internet WAS cheaper, but now you must field large server farms to sustain any meaningful operation.
Look for my seminal editorial on this topic soon.
DJT followed me on gab
Lifesite today.
Another site tomorrow?
What about lifesite?
That one would be a lot easier to self-host.
Much smaller volume.
I kept telling everyone that this “free market” power we supported was being given to primarily powerful LIBERAL CORPORATIONS.
What did they think was going to happen? One thing I knew for sure was that these liberal corporations were absolutely going to abuse the situation now that they were given license.
The price of allowing Freedom of Speech, is allowing speech which you despise.
Keep in mind that, to those on the Left, FreeRepublic is a source of "extremist hate and violence". What do you think a Leftist thinks of how we react to black-on-white violence?
For me, my only bright line is actual, credible incitement to actual violence. "XXX are a stain on humanity and deserve to all be killed" does not qualify as such. Only things like "I saw XXX eating at (YYY location), lets go over and beat them up" qualify.
FR tolerates anti-Muslim speech ("insulting the Prophet" will get you fined in Europe as hate speech). We like posting pictures of cute girls, which I'm sure some feminists are annoyed about, etc. The Left would LOVE to shut us down on any pretext.
I love this place more than any other. I can't breathe if it disappears.
But I can sure see that there would be plenty of reasons they could come up with to come after FR.
An obviously erroneous assumption.
The left has never understood that censorship inflames opposition to the boiling point.
