Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is trying to put the controversy over her proclaimed Native American heritage to rest after being berated by the Boston Globe and destroyed by President Trump on the issue.
My family (including Fox News-watchers) sat together and talked about what they think of @realDonaldTrumps attacks on our heritage. And yes, a famous geneticist analyzed my DNA and concluded that it contains Native American ancestry. pic.twitter.com/r3SNzP22f8 Elizabeth Warren (@elizabethforma) October 15, 2018
So, lets take a look at the results. According to the data, Warren is 1/1024th Native American.
Just checked the full DNA report , and it does say 6-10 generations rather than 1/32. As @kerpen notes, math would show it's 1/64 to 1/1024, unless we're missing something. See also this chart https://t.co/dnvbKFFcDu https://t.co/IhLF9kz8k4 Philip Klein (@philipaklein) October 15, 2018

You guys are soooo mean and just not being fair.
She’s every bit as much Cherokee as Corey Booker is Spartacus.
If Hwie’s smart, he’ll start the show with Geoff Deihl on...
Yeah, Native American. Native Latin American...
The tribes have felt they have been exploited, explained Lawrence Brody, a senior investigator with the Medical Genomics and Metabolic Genetics Branch at the National Institutes of Health. The amount of genetic data that is available from Native Americans is sparse.
To make up for the dearth of Native American DNA, Bustamante used samples from Mexico, Peru, and Colombia to stand in for Native American.
Warren can’t count on DNA alone. She would have to have documentation according to NA groups and she falls so short it is laughable. I am suspect that she didn’t have a blind and independent DNA done.
Around 1650 one of her male ancestors banged an Indian servant?
“AND SHE CLAIMS!!!!...That she might be 1/1000 percent Native American....GIVE ME A BREAK!” - next Trump rally
So how many years ago was that Indian in her genealogy?
Maybe she can get back benefits to that time.
6-10 Generations at 40 years each = 240 to 400 years.
1618 to 1778???
If we weren’t a country yet, she should be paying us benefits.
The nail is when Trump said who cares.
I like Dennis Millers comment that Custer has more Indian blood.
Drag a $100 bill through campus and you’ll never know what you find.
To make up for the dearth of Native American DNA, Bustamante used samples from Mexico, Peru, and Colombia to stand in for Native American.
Let's not lose this important information..this bears repeating..
Well, duh! She was Native American!!!!
No since this is WAY within the margin for error, we don’t really know whether she is a Feather Indian or not.
The stats do not prove it.
OK if we go with the presumption that the Native Americans descend from ancient people who crossed the Bering Straight 10,000+/- years ago - that would mean that Native Americans share some common ancestry with Europeans Asians.
Civilizations and Empires have changed over the past 10,000 years. Just in more recent times the Babylonians, Romans, Egyptians, Byzantines, Greeks , Japanese, Chinese and you know of so many others. All these peoples intermingled over 10,000 years. Even if you take a 100% biblical view we all share a common ancestor in Noah.
My point is partly a question - how did the Native Americans get to the Americas back in the day before they even had ships capable of crossing the ocean, and when people thought they would sail off the edge of the flat earth if they tried? Obviously they had to migrate here and one of the theories is they came across what is now Siberia and into what is now Alaska and Canada and migrated south to the warmer climates.
More directly my point is, if we all took a genetic test, it is likely we would all find, like Warren, at least a 1/1024th common ancestor with the Native Americans. If you go back far enough reflecting one of these ancient peoples and the integration of the various tribes, civilizations and empires it is statistically very likely. Researchers speculate were only between 1 million and 10 million Homo Sapiens walking on earth 10,000 years ago. And just a few 100,000 if you go back a few thousand years more.
It would be interesting for others interested in the politics of this - maybe get a group of a few dozen or a few score of people to take the same test as Warren took, and we’d find that her claim of ancestry also applies to every single one of us. She’s probably not special in this regard in any way shape or form except that she’s tried to make herself out to be something special for the political and financial gain she could exploit from it.
Thanks you said in 1 sentence what I tried to say in 5 paragraphs! LOL at myself.
She claims her high cheekbones are due to Indian blood, 1/1024 Indian blood.
Imagine the cheeks she would have if she was 1/4 Indian!
now that she’s taken the test, it’s “settled science”...
hahahahahahahahahaaaa!!!
Sure, but the Harvard Law faculty claims they did not take her alleged minority status into account in hiring her..... even though they were desperate to prove their liberal bona fides with some minority hiring, and even though they soon after proudly boasted of their ONE “Native American” faculty member, i.e., Fauxcahontas.
