I have a confession to make. I wasn’t sure Hillary Clinton would beat Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
Sure, I supported Clinton, wanted her to be our president and cried for about three days in the fetal position when she lost – but I wasn’t entirely shocked that Trump won.
For years I have seen my own Democratic Party support very intelligent candidates who seem a bit too highbrow for mainstream America.
John Kerry was a very eloquent, intelligent and polished speaker who I felt wiped the floor with George W. Bush in all three of their presidential candidate debates.
I also believed Hillary Clinton was more professional and had more political knowledge and intellect than Trump, and I concluded – as polls reported most people felt – that she won each presidential candidate debate hands down.
But the American people in both of those elections seemed to feel more comfortable voting for a guy they’d like to have a beer with. That was one of the reasons explaining the success of Bill Clinton – a Rhodes scholar who played the saxophone and spoke with an Arkansas twang.
Bill Clinton was likeable. For many voters, Trump was as well.
As a Democrat, I not only want a good strong candidate to run against President Trump. I want someone who’ll win. That someone, in my opinion, is former Vice President Joe Biden.

Biden will be 77 in 2020. Anyone voting for Biden at the top of the ticket should look very closely at the Democrat VP candidate. Likely, should the ticket win, the VP will become POTUS during the first term.
If they run an old white male at the top of the ticket, they will need a VP candidate to appeal balance the ticket and appeal to key constituencies - people of color, millenials, and females. Kamala Harris anyone?

I suspect maybe the writer is working for our side and encouraging the Democrats to continue making stupid mistakes. I am certainly not going to argue with this. I say, go for it Dems. We’d love to see Trump running against Slow Joe. Especially after a damaging primary fight with Hillary.
I don’t think Slow Joe could run for President because he “Peter Principled” out at Vice President. Maybe he could run again as Vice President with a real sickly candidate for President who would not live more than a week or so after the election and he would rise to President by default.

From what we learned about the CNN debate cheating conspiracy, we thus have reasonable suspicion that Ms. Clinton knew the questions in advance for most debates, if not actually writing them. By "professional" do you mean scheming, cheating, and lying?: and, by political knowledge, do you mean Alinsky acolyte?
