Major Hurricane Michael is churning toward the northeastern Gulf of Mexico coast. Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency Monday for 35 counties with mandatory coastal evacuations in the FL Panhandle. 1,250 National Guard troops are aiding the process and more than 4,000 more placed on standby.
FEMA is already on the ground in Florida; other federal agencies are also preparing to assist people in the storm's path.
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Monday declared a state of emergency for the entire state. Georgia Governor Nathan Deal issued a state of emergency for 92 counties ahead of Hurricane Michael landfall.
Meanwhile, Tallahassee city government (Andrew Gillum, Mayor & D'Rat FL Gubernatorial candidate) offices are "closed until further notice." Tallahassee International Airport is suspending commercial flight activity as 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday but expects to resume activity on Thursday.
The U.S. military moved its aircraft from the Panhandle on Monday. Roughly 50 F-22 stealth fighter jets valued around $150 million each have been relocated from the Tyndall Air Force Base, while the U.S. Navy said it is moving all its training aircraft from Pensacola.
Energy Production The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) on Tuesday estimated that around 726 MMcf/d (28.4%) of natural gas production and 670,831 b/d (39.5%) of oil production in the GOM had been shut in ahead of the storm.
As of midday Tuesday, 75 platforms and three rigs had been evacuated, while eight dynamically positioned rigs had been moved out of the storms path as a precaution, according to BSEE.

Have been praying for everyone in the path of Hurricane Michael.
I am near Raleigh, NC, and am concerned about Michael hitting our area tomorrow morning. I have a friend who needs my help to get to an appointment to extract a tooth. Small matter, but I don’t think we should be out in this storm in the morning. Shall I convince her to reschedule her appointment even though her tooth is hurting?
Sigh. Sorry for this petty question.
Thank you so much! I was going to look for it on YT or elsewhere tonight.
I just finished watching it and held my breath far too much, even though I knew Brett was ok. What a terrifying ordeal!
Heavy rain is one thing, but wind—— especially with trees in the area —— is another thing. Saline mouth washes and an ice pack for the sore tooth??
Thanks!
What time is the appointment tomorrow? Is there time to call ahead tomorrow to find out whether the office is open? Tooth pain can be pretty awful. However, there are some over-the-counter topical pain relievers (Orajel, for one) that can make the pain tolerable if the procedure must be delayed. Available at most every drug store.
Yes, the winds are slowing down but there’s still plenty of strength to knock down trees. 90 mph as of 8:00 ET. And trees are my concern because there are many around our friends’ house. It looks like the storm is centered over them now.
So sorry to read this about your wife and your mother in law. Are they okay?
I am near Raleigh,NC. All schools are closed in central and mostly Eastern NC for tomorrow.
I just wish I knew exactly when Michael was going to come up our way tomorrow and what the forecast wind is going to be.
Wow. Prayers for that area and its people.
Thank you for that image especially - shows where Michael is going now.
Thanks for all the info you share on this thread.
Thank you for the photos on this thread,
The damage is so horrible!
Wow! Thanks for that photo and for this thread.
Yes,reschedule.
..
THe appointment is at 8:30 AM tomorrow.
Earlier the weather guys around here were saying we wouldn’t be getting the full effects of Michael until around 2 PM but recently that has changed....to earlier....but they haven’t said when.
Yes, re: she can get some remedies for the tooth pain - maybe until Monday. (I have another appointment on Friday so I can’t take her then).
Thanks for the suggestion.
P.S.....I heard from someone today that apple cider vinegar is great for tooth pain also.
Oh, that is terribly scary. So sorry to hear this.
I will keep your wife and MIL in my prayers.
Thanks! I believe we will have to do that. I do NOT want to be out in the storm with the wind and rain, possible trees coming down, and flash flooding on the streets.
THANKS for the sane common sense.
Good luck——a tooth ache can be dreadful but the alternative if you go may be worse.
Stay safe!
.
If your friend is in a lot of pain, the office is open, and you don’t feel comfortable driving...Uber is a perfect option, rather than your friend suffering for another four days.
I agree. She will just have to find remedies for the tooth pain until we can get to the dentist to get the tooth extracted.
