My recollection for that time was that polls showed a large majority of American blacks favored Thomas’s confirmation and felt he was being singled out because of his race. I don’t recall any polls on Anita Hill, but people react to individuals based on how that person makes them feel and Anita Hill definitely gave me (anyway) the feel of a sleazy, vindictive cheap shot artist.

I don't remember polls from that time, but I'm from that community, and can tell you that there's never been much love lost on Clarence Thomas there.

He isn't celebrated among blacks because he's got the wrong politics.

He was attacked during his confirmation hearing because he's a conservative - not because he's black. Remember who was doing the attacking. It wasn't our side. Most blacks are liberals, and were happy to watch him burn at the stake.
