Total speculation on my part, but...
Like the GOP, most of these Democrats are old fogies and represent the old guard. I think that younger blood (like Cortez) will be muscling their way in starting this year and every election hence.
They know they’re personally finished politically one way or another, so may as well go for broke.
We could use some names here....
All this has to tie to disastrous internal polling for them why else would they be so hysterical? If yhey were certain the majority will be theirs, why would this even be necessary?

Um...no. Safeway stores were in the Washington DC area from at aleast the mid to late 50s from personal memory...my family shopped Safeway.
Never heard anything about it.

I remember Potomac Village as far back as the mid-1980s. I was a Safeway by then.
Before running with the notion that it wasn’t always a Safeway, it should be confirmed one way or other.

That was what I read. The Albertson’s became a Safeway. IIRC they were owned by the same company. Alberson’s was just a higher end Safeway. IIRC what I read was it was not a Safeway until the mid 80s.

Lived in Washington DC since 1950 and never saw, heard of, or read advertisments for an Albertson’s food store...never. The earliest chain stores I recall were the DGS ones, District Grocery Stores, very small with wooden floors and vegatable/ fruit bins, not at all supermarkets.
md used to have convoluted “blue laws” restricting some sales and large stores on sunday-ended in 1987
I never said they did have alcohol in Safeway’s. I said I know that area and time Period well and it is very easy to remember a Safeway in that area if it existed. They do sell alcohol iin Ovean City, Maryland in convenient stores last i was there...
