Lived in Washington DC since 1950 and never saw, heard of, or read advertisments for an Albertson’s food store...never. The earliest chain stores I recall were the DGS ones, District Grocery Stores, very small with wooden floors and vegatable/ fruit bins, not at all supermarkets.
We are talking Montgomery County though right on DC border as you know. I dont dispute your memory though...I live just outside Annapolis and weve had Safeway as long as I remember and thats well before 80s
I dont know, I dont live anywhere near there, Im just telling you what I read from women who lived near there and went to Potomac Village. I just looked and Judge just said he worked for a supermarket for a few weeks in the summer.
What I find strange is how she could have run into him and she said Hi. If you ran into a supposed attacker wouldnt you turn around and run?
I think there may have been Safeways in the 60s but I recall just Grand Unions and Giant.
Safeway is now owned by an entity called “New Albertsons”. This entity also owns ACME, based in the Philadelphia area, which used to have a store on Kent Island, MD.
