President Trump on Friday asked the FBI to investigate sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh after Senate Republicans agreed to a one-week investigation, temporarily delaying his nomination to the Supreme Court.
“I’ve ordered the FBI to conduct a supplemental investigation to update Judge Kavanaugh’s file. As the Senate has requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in less than one week,” Trump said in the statement released by the White House.
The Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday afternoon requested that Trump instruct the FBI to conduct the supplemental investigation after Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and others called for the move.
Flake said the FBI should conduct an investigation that is “limited in scope and time,” and said it should focus solely on credible accusations against Kavanaugh and last no longer than a week.
Multiple senators, including Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkwski (R-Alaska), Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) soon followed.
Flake, after outlining his call for the supplemental FBI investigation, joined other Republicans on the Judiciary Committee on Friday in voting to send Kavanaugh's nomination to the full Senate.
Republicans are set to hold a procedural vote on Kavanaugh's nomination on Saturday, though a final vote set for early next week is likely to be delayed to allow the FBI investigation to wrap up.
Democrats had been calling for such an investigation for days and received GOP support following a rollercoaster day on Capitol Hill on Thursday, when Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford testified before the Judiciary panel.
Ford delivered gripping testimony outlining her allegation that Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and tried to remove her clothes during a house gathering in 1982 when she and Kavanaugh were high schoolers.
Kavanaugh, who has flatly denied the allegations, offered a forceful defense of himself during the hearing. Speaking after Ford, the nominee called his confirmation process a "national disgrace" and insisted he had never sexually assaulted anyone.
Trump on Friday afternoon called Ford a "credible" witness and described her testimony as "compelling," but also praised Kavanaugh's performance and told reporters at the White House that he had given no thought to having another nominee.
This could be just a trap to ensnare Ford, her Clinton attorneys, and others. “Go ahead, say that crap to a federal investigator that can lock your sorry ass up for lying.”

Does anyone have an address where we could send a card of encouragement to the Kavanaugh’s. I love making my own cards and do a pretty good job. My heart and soul go out to them. At this point, I think trust in the functioning of our government is finished. Who trust’s the FBI when we now read that the lawyer for Andrew McCabe will be overseeing the new FBI check on Judge Kavanaugh? According to what we read, that lawyer is a Democratic operative and linked to Dr. Ford. Could this be the reason that the Democrats wanted the FBI involved in this? Who, really, is Jeff Flake? If you believe in prayer and if you believe that God is real, then you must pray unceasingly for His protection over the Kavanaugh’s. The Judge must be feeling like Job at this point. God, however, knows when a robin falls from a tree. He takes care of the lilies of the fields and we know from our own experiences that prayer really helps in times of trouble and sorrow. The Kavanaugh’s are experiencing something worse than death at the hands of their own countrymen/women. I pray that God will enter this situation and sort it all out.
Two words I don’t like seeing here: “New” and “Credible.”

My FRiend, it would not surprise me at all. Her corroboration witnesses (all of whom did not corroborate any part of her story) will be quickly found and interviewed. Since Ford, with all the growing list of discrepancies in her various statement, is IMHO the only person at risk from these new FBI interviews I expect her cooperation to be minimal...at best.
Don’t be surprised if her handlers say she’s in no condition to be interviewed.
This hasn’t been mentioned, but I think this is wonderful news. Brent Kavanaugh stated from the beginning that he would have liked the FBI involved. How much you want to bet the accusers stories dramatically change once they have to give sworn statements to the FBI. Getting caught lying to the Feds is serious jail time. Ask Martha Stewart, George Papadopoulos, Robert Deluca, and so many more. I think Trump has plenty of faith in Brent Kavanaugh. But what do I know.

Don’t be discouraged..,we WILL prevail. The nomination does NOT have to go through the Judicial Committee again.
The GOP and Trump were outplayed by dems & Flake. The dems & the media spent all day demanding an FBI investigation. “Why is Kavanaugh afraid of the FBI talking to Mike Judge, or others ?” The GOP told them they had sworn testimony, their own investigator had checked everyone out... It seemed to be enough to satisfy Flake.
So Flake make the big announcement last night, “I didn’t see enough proof to support what Dr. Ford said, so I will vote Yes tomorrow morning.” All along he knows he’s going to play the FBI investigation card. That’s why the demms talked about it non-stop yesterday & all the dems ass-wipes talked about it on the MSM last night. Even Dershowitz was on board for the “We need a FBI investigation”
So the GOP are sure they will get it to the floor and have enough votes to confirm on Tuesday. Suddenly Flake says I can’t vote for him without a FBI investigation. So they are in a no win situation. Other senators will clearly not vote Yes without an investigation..
FBI investigation is a red herring. This is all about 1 more week to slander Kavanaugh. The poor guy is either going to be forced to step down or there will not be enough votes and his nomination never comes to the floor

Why did Trump say she was credible.. He should have said she was very composed and presented her story, but didn’t add any proof.. in fact people she claimed were at the party, said it never happened, even her girlfriend

This new development has the earmarking of a Trump like negotiating tactic. The FBI investigation request is reasonable and hard to argue against. By holding it off until just before the final vote and making the Democrats beg for it caused the Democrats to focus on this one request. They focused on one issue. Then Trump gives them the one thing he would have given them anyway and closes the deal.
We are in estrogen induced banana republic territory.
