A jury has ordered a female blogger to pay an Army colonel she accused of rape a total of $8.4million in damages.
Susan Shannon, 52, who now lives in Everett, Washington, first alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Army Colonel David 'Wil' Riggins in 1986, while they were both cadets, on her blog in 2013.
She said she waited three decades to come forward about her experience because of the army's 'code of silence'.

False accusations should result in suing the accuser into financial oblivion.

How do we know there were others named in the letter? What did I miss? I’ve heard references to Gorsuch but nothing about him being named in the letter.
They only did this because they were being targeted by the media over it. This means the media have access to information -- which surely must have originated with Ford -- that includes their names.
Remember the movie Absence of Malice and the Asst. Attorney General who called everyone into a room to get to the bottom of a story? Classic scene!! Only 1:55 but this is exactly what we need in DC now:

I agree, that member keeps posting the same thing about the judge being a public figure so he can’t sue. I dont think he’s really a public figure. And making false allegations of a crime that could get somebody put behind bars is definitely defamation in my opinion especially the keeps him from his career.
No. But I think Kavanaugh will hold a grudge and stick it to the left every time because it affected his daughters who were chased out on day 1 alone. Even Gorsuch’s family got death threats. Those 2 will remember it..that’s why Clarence Thomas votes right all the time and he remembered everything.

I haven't heard your point from all the news/opinion pundits as yet. I think you've called it. She has nothing other then names she can claim. If those names say WRONG (like the 3 she has already named), she is open to liable suits. Her lawyer[s] handlers are twisting their minds into pretzels to work around your point.

As of now, has Ford even made a verbal or written statement other than her original letter making any allegation against Kavanaugh? I could be wrong, but I don't believe I've seen any reference to one.
This is why Ford wants Kavanaugh to testify first. She wants him to defend himself against an allegation that has been made in such a half-assed and convoluted way -- effectively "defaming" HIMSELF in the process -- at which point she could simply refuse to testify at all.
Now this is winning! False allegations can destroy a career. A person who alleges a false allegation should be forced to pay up when the false allegation is proven in court.

But her brazen false testimony about the situation (which seems to have changed a number of times now) will make it 100x harder for women who are abused, assaulted, and raped to come forward, because there are some men who seem to think that having your humanity stripped from you is a sexual fantasy when it's a complete nightmare.
I would hope he would find grounds to sue her for her defamation, or the Grandparents do on behalf of his daughters.
I disagree with your last statement. Politically, the best thing Grassley can do is run this thing out for days -- even weeks.
The scenario that absolutely works best for the GOP is to have Ford decline to testify in a very public and embarrassing way ... but only after her lawyers have made every pathetic attempt to make excuses for why she can't meet the GOP terms. She's afraid to fly. She's afraid of confined spaces. She only wants one camera and ten reporters ... no, make that three cameras and five reporters. She wants Kavanaugh to go first. She only wants black Republican senators to question her -- and only during Ramadan ... blah, blah, blah ... until one day she decides to set herself on fire outside Dianne Feinstein's Senate office in San Francisco.
I’m only telling you what I’ve heard. I have no idea if defamation would hold up in court.
